I have a quick question here. From my understanding, if you are already GM Alchemy, the only boost you would get from this talisman would be from the exceptional bonus. The regular 30% bonus is just for gaining skill. Am I right?

not really. Talismans don't add to your skill level, they add to your percentage chance to make.

Best demonstration is to check your crafting menu, look at your percentage chance to make deadly poison. Then equip a talisman and re-access the menu (close and re-open it)

I'd love to bid on it, but I went and spent all my gold on regs to train Dee. Plus there's a house I'd like to buy, if the owner is willing to sell, and I reckon I need to save at least 15 mil before I even dare ask him. :D

There isn't really anything in alchemy that you can make that is exceptional or put a maker's mark on, so the fact that the exceptional chance bonus on the talisman is low is really of no concern. Having a 30% success chance boost makes creation of deadly poison and the ML potions which have low success rates even at GM skill level far more economic, and pushes the other potions such as greater cure to a 100% success rate, meaning no waste.

30% is the max intensity that can be found on a talisman.

My 26% talisman saves me a significant amount of nightshade when I am filling deadly poison kegs.

Even turning in 250K of PLAIN iron ingots would be a significant challenge and time investment. For someone to even have 250K verite and valorite ingots to turn in, especially after the random ore changes, well...I don't know what to say about that. I wouldn't expect that anyone could pay even the base cost of the ingots used.

Wow, I have to go home tonight and check my bank...I had no Idea that the exceptional did nothing. My Talisman with 22% exceptional still cost me LOTS of regs.

Yes, if you have an alchemy talisman with only exceptional chance bonus as a property, it is doing absolutely nothing for you when you are grinding kegs.

What you want is a talisman with the max success chance boost you can get for alchemy (30% is the max). However, I have to say Leaf that you can get alchemy talisman with 15% - 22% success chance bonus quite cheaply (even pick up off the ground in Heartwood), and a higher intensity one such as 23% - 26% would probably sell at most for a few hundred K GP, and such an investment you will get back in reagent savings before too long if you regularly make potion kegs. In contrast, however, the amount you would likely invest on a max intensity one such as Czarina's would massively outweigh any savings even with the extra 4% or success chance increase IMO. I mean, it sounds like conservatively she used over 10M worth of ingots to get it. That is a whole lot of reagents to save to justify that kind of investment for a potion maker!

So...the 30% is neat, but if that is what it takes to get, not really practical for most players.

Thanks for putting things in perspective Skylark. Had no idea how much it would go for.

Im not saying it took that many ingots to get just that one talisman. Thats just what ive donated since ive been back till i got my first 30 alchy one. The last one before that i got was 29 and ive gotten quite a few of them talismans now. working on the inscription ones now. And I spent my first 4 years of UO doing nothing but mining about 4 or 5 hours a day before the random ore locations came into effect. My mini tower in glow had a complete runebook library includeing one floor of nothing but gold and higher ore locations and multiple books of each. I spent alot of time gating into higher up ore locations and mining. Then when i came back to UO recently after my 4 year break I spent all the gold ive earned over the years buying up all them nice 10k and 1k comm deeds of ingots sold by all you wonderfull merchants out there cause i had dropped mining long ago.

Anyways im rambling. Im not looking for a offer equal to the ingots i used I was just trying to point out how much work of mining and transporting ingots to the donation chest i went thru. I know ive seen even 26 alchemy bonus talismans reach decent prices. So figured the max would be worth a pretty penny. Thanks =)
