i am planning to make a thief-assassin like char

spec:
100 hiding
100 stealth
100 snooping
100 stealing

100 ninjitsu
100 fencing

i am unsure about last ability..
if going poisoning, anatomy or tactics.. (i would choose poisoning but considering with ninjitsu shuriken you can land poison without the skill i think not)

so this leaves me to choosing between tactics, anatomy, or maybe focus (i think not)

my char is about coming out of the shadows, hit you (maybe when already damaged) and if i am not getting the upper hand flee..
so it's more based on heavy burst damage and i am not focused on last-longing fights (i don t have defensive abilities for it i think).

damage wise i think that tactics should go over anatomy...

but anatomy has the ability to let you land more special blows with short-spears and spears, wich could help me defeating my foe maybe more than the dps-benefit of tactics..

so what you think guys?

thanks

Special weapon abilities?
you mean special attacks? i tought they only required the weapon skill..

Anyway considering i have no healing in my template, probably tactics it s just better..

Still i fear that i ll'have troubles raising it..
I started tonight any my fencing skill ist almost at 25
while my tactics is only at something more than 5..

if they diverge greater and greater will I still be able to raise it even with a weapon skill much higher? (thus fighting bigger monsters), or must i do something else like training up another weapon?

I know the template sounds viable, but with your skill set you will be hitting once and running immediately. For a playstyle like that, poisoning would be your best bet as it will add damage over time (and it will add to the feel of a stealth thief). Anatomy should not even be an option here if you do not already have tactics - tactics adds more damage than anatomy, and adds the ability to use special moves.

Also, you know that you can't steal anything you want, right? The best you are going to do is to steal a few necro reagents or some bandaids. If this character is for RP, go for it - otherwise, I would suggest not spending all the time on the skills for a character that will be sub-par.

But as was said before, if you want weapon special moves you need tactics (70 for primary abilities, 90 for secondary), so choose between damage over time from poisoning and the ability to use your special move of choice.

Special Weapon abilities = Special Attacks. They recently made a change where 90 in Tactics is required to use them.

Quickest way to gain Tactics when you already have a high Weapon skill...

0-50 = Buy some, then kill everything near the Justice Shrine in Ilshenar
50.1-80 = Kill the Ettins and Earthies on Lvl 2 Despise (or is it level 3?)
80.1-120 = Kill Ogre Lords in Despise or Daemons. I like the double Daemon rooms in Hythloth or Fan Dancer's Dojo. Actually you should stick to the Ogre Lords since you have no Magic Resist.

Actually, Poisoning isn't a bad idea either, though it's very tedious to train.

... one tweak to Setnaffa's otherwise great advice (I was here looking for just that info). To get Tactics to 50 quickly, take full advantage of its trainer in New Haven.

0) set wrestling to go up
1) buy tactics and wrestling to 40
2) accept tactics skill quest (to raise it to 50)
2a) might as well accept the wrestling skill quest also
3) go to the older Haven area NE of town (where he suggests you go)
4) fight the undead in the area. So long as you are on one of the newbie fight/magic quests, you will be getting "accelerated skill gain". Instead of Tactics and Wrestling going up 0.1 per tick, they will rise randomly from 0.2 to 0.5 per tick.
5) when you reach 50, the quest will be complete in that skill, and its skill gain will go back to 0.1 per tick
6) report back to trainer(s) and turn in quest. You'll receive ok reward(s), at least for a new character. (The New Haven rewards are blessed, so they could be rez armor if nothing else.)
7) set wrestling to go down

The New Haven quests are ideal for getting most major skills to 50. There are some unfortunate gaps, such as alchemy, poisoning, and the music skills. Still, for the supported ones, it's great to see a skill jump of 0.5.

Note that the supported crafting skills each have their own "hot" area. Pay attention to where the quest giver says to be, and you'll get the same accelerated gain for them as well.

Honestly Poisoning is the way to go really, if your out and about and find AFK farmers or scriptors you can use Shuriken with the Ninjitsu skill, You can also look at droping a few of those skills down to 90 and opening 30 points up and using a Burglar's Bandana to make up for them and some of the Ninjitsu and use Skill Jewelry to shuffle around skill points to add the 90 tactics also. You need 90 Real Skill btw jewelry buffs don't enable special strikes.

i will do the template like that

pec:
100 hiding
80 stealth
100 snooping
100 stealing

100 ninjitsu
120 wrestling
100 Resist Spell

this template is very fun to play... you don't need to bring anything such as weapon or armor...
Resist spell give you 40 in all resists.
Wrestling can do special move without tactics... (good to use disarm and Paralyzing people)
You can enjoy stealing and won't lost anything when die.
