Swds vs Macing

I know this is an age old argument, but I made a swds guy and I have him 4x GM, but I am seriously thinkning about switching out swords with macing. Mainly because the scroll is cheaper and My main dexxer back in the day was a parry/macer. Advice?

All i used back then were war axes and war hammers. Ive been told the hammers are trash now and that diamond maces are decent? Seems like more people would like the crushing blow from the war hammer

I think Crushing Blow is a bad move.
Armor Ignore is much better. With a mace hunter you haven't another alternative IMHO.
Depending on ssi on your suit you use a War Axe (3.00s) or a Hammer Pick (3.25s).
A War Hammer looks to slow for WW weapon (3.75s) so you have to use a Black Staff (2.75s) for WW.

You may as well become a 'true' paladin with a shield (without Bushido). In this case you use Holy Light instead of WW. It's has good damage but you don't leach life with it so you can't use it on level 4 of a spawn (although it's really not a problem). The lack of honor harts more (when you haven't slayer).

Yeah he has parry....parry macer was my old school temp. Mace Tac Heal Anat Res Par. Probably need a lmc suit since there's no meditation Im guessing. Is this template decent vs mages as well as melee?

This template will not work in PvM cos of lack of damage multipliers. You need to add Chivalry (EOO, CW and may be DF). With HLL on your weapon and 4/6 casting you can do well without Healing. HLL on a weapon is enough in the most cases and you can use Chivalry for urgent healing (as well as curing and removing curses).

You need a shield with HCI/DI/SSI reforged and FC/DCI imbued. Or you could uses cheap Chaos/Order artifact shields.
For the first cheap suit you can use Helm of Swiftness and FC/FCR jewels. Later you could use Ornament of Magician to get 4 FC.

I know very little about PvP.
Probably:
- you can do well without bushido and chvalry (by may be you need spellweaving or some other skill)
- you needn't AI weapon (decide what special moves are going to use and get a set of proper weapons)

I suggest you to add 'pvp' to the subject of the topic.
