When I drove the girls to school this morning, I got a surprise when I drove past the gas station. Now I realize that I live in Okieville, and stuff is always cheaper here, but for the first time in over a year, gas is below 3.00!! It was 2.99. So I checked when I got home, and yeah, oil has dropped below 90 a barrel.

As of Saturday night it was 3.18 here for super (which is cheaper than regular unleaded in Iowa). We're finally heading in the right direction.

I live in a major port where an extreemly large amount of fuel comes thru and our cas as of 12pm today was $3.69 a gallon. Talk about price gouging. Typical Charleston SC. Alsmo as bad as Welcome to ToonTown.

I heard on the news that our (Charlotte, NC) gas prices are a bit higher than elsewhere right now. Lately it's $3.89 near my house. That is, if they have gas. More often than not when I drive by they have little bags over the gas handles and signs saying they are out. You'll see a huge line at the station when the gas truck pulls up.

It's crazy here in Charleston. All of our stations are full except 1.

We have 1 station that is selling fuel for $2.89 a gallon and the OWNER said "were still making money!" The rest of the gas stations in charleston are charging $3.59+ a gallon. I don't get it. I know there is a price goughing law in effect here. But how can you fight 50k gas stations aganst 1?

The only reason they run out is cause they are working on getting a 2nd shipment of fuel in daily.

It amazes me at how much these corporate gas stations screw everyone over. And they call them a CONVEINENCE store.

Well Last week I was paying 3.89 a gallon for unleaded. Today when I drove into the hospital it was 3.55. Its going down but not fast enough. The funny thing is that oil is below 80.00 a barrel. So honestly we should only be paying around 2.00 a gallon. I remember about 3 yrs ago it cost around 400 to fill up my brothers boat. Now since I have my own and its a gas hog let me tell you. I think the first time I took it out I spent 800.00 and I was shocked. My financial advsor looked at that and said that is crazy you need to invest your money instead of burning it on fishing. I said why so they government can have it to bail out these banks. I might as well spend it since I am at risk of losing it.

Well we are paying about 3.89 for regular, but it depends on which station you use. There is a major port here in Palm Beach, FL, so the franchise stores are having major price wars. The corporate stores dont vary too much. There was one that was selling regular for 2.69 and ran out of it very quickly. So, if you really needed gas, you had to buy the higher grade for a dollar more per gallon. that stinks!!:gun:

Can someone explain something to me?
Here in charleston fuel is still like $3.49 a gallon at all the CONVIENIENCE stores except 3. Thos 3 are owned by locals. all 3 of them are charging $2.89 a gallon and have stated on the news "WE'RE STILL MAKING MONEY ON GAS!"

How can this be?

Is the gas they sell that much different from everyone elses?

The station across the street is still charging $349 a gallon.
I think there wouldnt be any DEPRESSION if fuel prices went down as fast as the go up. I watched fuel go up 50 to 90 cents in a day. But when oil is lowered the price goes down 3 cents a week.

If the fues prices reflected the actual costs then the rest of the prices would also go back down to affordable. Maybe then people would be able to make those morguage payments again. Not that it depresses me that we lost a few banks. Those are something we can do with less of.

And I have never met any MAN, WOMAN, or CEO worth multi-million dollar salaries no matter how smart they think they are. The only person I see that is smart enough for a multi million paycheck is Bill Gates because he came up with an idea and persued it. He made himself who he is. No one promoted him and thre money at him. He earned it. Well at least until he hit billionair status. Now he is repaing the rewards.

I paid $3.19 this afternoon. Tonight driving around we saw it dropped to $3.09. I'm happy though, $40 to fill up my tank. Which used to be almost $55 when it was over $4 a gallon.

We're down to around $2.75 for regular... I can't explain that any better than I can explain why the price doesn't drop as fast as it rises.

From what I understand, the difference in the pricing is a result of where that station (or their chain of stations) made a deal with what refinery. If they made a deal for a certain amount of gas during the highest prices, it will take them a while to drop their price until they get through that contract, unless they want to take a loss (not really a loss, just less profit) to keep up with the competition. You may see the stations that are offering cheap rates now, look more expensive, when other stores offer the next round of dropped prices. Just depends on how fast the price keeps falling. The only way to have an impact on this is to shop with your wheels and don't stop at stations who have the higher prices.

Actually it is all SUPPLY and DEMAND! My brother drives a fuel tanker and deliver's fuel to alot of stations. In the more populated areas fuel is higher then in the suburb areas. The reason is because more people need it so the stations know they can charge more.

For instance I live in Charleston county. I am 10 miles from the beach and fuel here in charleston limits is one of the highest in SC. Fuel here is still $3.39 per gallon.

My brother lives in Goose Creek which is less populated and about 25 miles from the shore and fuel there is $2.90 per gallon.

Driving from there to here you can watch the price increase mile by mile the closer you get to charleston City limits or mount pleasant which are both on the water.

Supply and demand. We need the supply and they demand alot more money from us because they figure since we live near the ocean we have more money to give.

I was in another coastal town on Sunday which is alot less populated then Charleston and the fuel prices were around $2.95 per gallon. And in Hilton Head Island it was $3.01 per gallon. If you know anything about SC shorelines Hilton Head is where people with too much money go to live. The average home price is well over $600k. And their fuel is still cheaper because it is less densley populated.

Next time your near a big city in your state check the pumps you will see what I mean.

This is also another reason I am moving 70 miles south.

So people move out of the "big city" and commute in, thereby demanding more fuel, which increases the price! Not you personally, just as a general rule.

The problem with this theory is that fuel in on the outskirts or in the suburbs is cheaper then the city lol. Too Funny

2.709 is Iowa average today. I paid 2.82 on Saturday. Well, plus 3c off a gallon... so 2.79

We are ranging anywhere from $2.95 to $3.19 - I don't get it, but at least the cheapest are usually the ones right by our house.

A lot of stations around here take off 3 to 5 cents per gallon if you pay cash. Who carries cash around anymore? Debit cards don't count with these guys either. I have a gas station almost 200 yards from my front door and last night it was 3.49.

There was one non-corporate station here that was charging 2.39 for regular. They were on the news and the owner said he is making more money by dropping his gas prices than by rising them for more profit per gallon. He has a decent store there, which does well, too.

I am surprised it has gotten this low. The difference in 20 miles is about $.40 a gallon here. It's $2.89 a gallon in my town. BUT If you travel 20 miles up in the the middle of no where, you can get it for $2.49 a gallon. That makes no sense to me at all! BUT Hey I'll take it!

We have the same type of discrepency here with gas between towns in CNY, and they were saying that it has to do with the demand at the partiuclar gas stations because if demand is lower, then the gas stations will still have gas they bought at the higher price per gallon. So they can't lower it until they get their new shipment in at the new cost per barrell.

They can't lower it, but they sure can raise it again in a hurry. Our gas has been up and down 20 cents a gallon twice this week. Go figure.

It went down $.20 overnight from $2.39 to $2.19. I went south today towards Harrisburg where I saw one station at $1.99, they were lined up. It's so awesome to be able to drive places and not have to pay $50-$60 to fill it back up. Yay for cheap gas.

I paid $1.18 a gallon for premium today! I shop at this one grocery store that gives customer discounts. Regular price there is $2.18 a gallon for premium. They give .10 off a gallon with the bonus card but also give points for how much you spend there too. I must buy way too much food because I had enough points to get it to $1.18. It was great to fill up my MDX for under $25!

Yeah it sat for 1.95 (89 octane) for a week so I figured that's the best it was gonna get. I filled up my Exploder at that price before work. When I got off work it was 1.89. lol

Here near Seattle, its 2.15 on the Navy base. Its 1.89 on the army base. And 1.99 at costco. Only cost me 35 bucks to fill up my Jeep this week. Last month it cost 80 bucks.
