First, let me give major compliments to Mythic, and specifically Sakkarah, for the implementation of the staining system as it stands. It's a very nice addition to UO that allows us to customize all of our armor and clothing to match. It also gives a GREAT boon to gardeners, making gardening not only viable but profitable once more.
All of this said, I was reading that berries and such were considered for the staining system, and which may yet happen in the future, and I was thinking about an additional resource that would be nice... I really like the metal ore colors as well, and right now, we can't make a verite armor piece match a valorite armor piece. What I propose is that you can mix 1 plain pigment with 1 crushed ore (made by alchemist with mortar and pestle) -- or for simplicity sake, 1 ingot -- and you will receive a metallic stain in one of the original 8 additional metal colors (obviously it would be pointless to do "iron" because it's not a color, it's just not hued).
This still requires plants to be part of the system so it doesn't devalue the existing stain system, but it would give access to those 8 colors.
Just a thought, but it would be nice to match those colors as well.
