Some of the worst problems with the EM events that I attended were “listening” to the EM. Some people were purposely spamming nonsense to annoy other people, but mostly people didn’t understand the instructions or missed part of them and were innocently asking questions. Others were late to the event, and missed the opening speech. Here are a few suggestions that might help.
1. Add a second command to the Town Crier System: Events. Instead of asking for “news” from the Town Crier (all Town Criers and even Sherry the Mouse) the word “events” would announce the when, where, who and what of the next EM event.
2. Turn the Town Criers into quest givers for events. Take the Town Crier quest would be the start of any EM event, and could also be the start of any multi-part quest type event. The Quest Gump would include beginning instructions for the event, where to meet, etc. If it is only a single event, such as “Kill 17 Greater Mongbats” then it would also be a marker to receive a reward at the end of the event.
3. When a player accepted the quest from the Town Crier, a new special chat channel would open to receive on-going communication from the EM. This special chat channel would only broadcast messages from the EM. Questions can be submitted to the EM, but not seen by other players. If a player annoyed the EM, he/she would be kicked from chat and the event, and not receive any reward. The chat channel would allow the EM to keep layers up to date on any changes in the event, no matter where the player might be, not just in front of the EM.
4. Finally, once the event is complete, the player goes back to any Town Crier to finish the quest and receive his/her reward. Doing this would even allow for multiple choice of one from several rewards for an event.
It’s not perfect, but this would allow players to participate in an event and not miss important instructions, and get up to the minute reports on the event.
