Suggestion: Access Rights for Vendors!

I have an interesting design suggestion to make:

A player should have the option to set access rights to his vendor!

The reason is the following:
As we all know, due to inflation prices on player vendors have skyrocketed during the past years. This hurts mostly one type of player: The newcomer and the unexperienced/poor player. Because they will not find items on vendors anymore they can afford.

I tried to counter this development by setting up a vendor in our guild house that nobody except our guild members knew about. I stocked the vendor with good quality items for a very low price (price would be about 10% of the typical Luna price, or less). From this vendor, any new and unexperienced guild member could buy any equipment or house deco he needed for very few gold. And to me it was the perfect opportunity to make room in my house. It was a win-win-situation, since my gameplay is not focused on personal profit.

However, after a while someone seemed to have discovered the vendor and bought it empty. I found some of my items later in Luna for 10 times the price. My idea had failed.

For this reason it would be great to be able to set access rights to a vendor, so only guild members or friends of the house could buy from them!

There are people out there who want to help new players. Give us the tools to do so!

I think it's a great idea. I'd love to also have the option to basically block certain players and allow everyone else too - I'm not too fussed who buys from me, but it would be useful to block any blatant Luna resellers ;)

Something else I'd like is to allow characters from my other account to manage and stock my vendor too. It's a really minor thing to drop off items in a box and relog the vendor owner to put them up for sale, but I figure if we got access rights they ought to apply to this too.

Seriously a BAD idea.

If you want to have a place so guildies and feinds can get items from others in the guild - wait there already is a way place them in a box in your house and set security to guild or freinds?

This concept is just another item that would be greastly exploited, if you sell items everyone should have a chnace to buy it. If not it is NOT a free market.

Sorry i cannot agree to this at all.

I disagree with you greatly. How could you exploit this? Care to explain?

I like the idea.

"Free market" does not mean what you think it means. "Free market" also means that a seller has the freedom to refuse to sell. For example, Costco restricts purchases to members, which is in fact a "free market."

Like Thav, I'm wondering how you think this could possibly be "greastly exploited."

Yeah its a great idea, like most others tho itll probably never happen. Yes you can put stuff in a box for guilds, but it would be beneficial for non-rich guilds to have an easy way to transfer items without the person having to be online, like suits that take a long time to make.

UO isnt a free market. It would be if there werent the rlm sites that greatly effect the prices of goods. They buy items in mass, which drives up prices.

It would also be great if there was a way to prevent unwanted reselling, tho i dont see how it would really be possible unless the vendor was only guild access. (and yes unfortuantly im sure some people would still abuse this, buy for cheap from a guild, then resell, hey people are greedy)

I feel kinda bad when i buyout a non rlm listed non luna vendor that is reasonable priced just to resell for double, but then i can make more gold, so i can buy the overpriced items from luna. You just dont see stuff that costs 50mil plus on non luna vendors much so thats really my only option.

I like the idea.
50 Vendors on an 18x18 with 125 items in each, Vendor set to friends only - No friends on the house = 6250 EXTRA Storage.

Nice idea, But some exploits that will need to be sorted.

Ehm... you can do that already, essentially... just price it way above market value... lots of people use them as personal banks already. And then again, how is this hurting anybody? In this day and age of cheap server space 6250 extra six hexadecimal digits per person would not hurt a soul. Just allows you to become an even biger pack rat... I personally have never reached the item limit in my house. Not my play style.

I like the idea that I can make a vendor that sells only to guild, or friend, or ally, or hell, only to my other account for all i care...

You can do it already, But its expensive. You could set a bag for 1gp knowing no one could buy it and fill it up and it would cost much less.

Many people have reached the limit of the storage and the fact EA sell extra storage I just don't think they would allow this unless it was properly none exploitable.

And it will maintain the screwed up economy by avoiding giving people a way to sell things at reasonable prices without becoming a supplier for the greedy souls in Luna.

It will also avoid giving new players places they can buy things at prices they can afford that are not bought out by greedy players to sell for fortunes at their Luna vendor malls.

You can only buy so much extra storage.

If a few would abuse it, oh well. Why shaft the many to avoid benefiting a few mega-rich souls who hardly need to be richer? So they get a way to store 6250 more of their million gold checks. Big Deal.

What are the Devs thinking? Something like?

"OMG!! Some might get more storage if we do something to help the game economy and all the hundred thousand players we have! Are you out of your mind!!!!!!"

The Devs need to roll a reality check. Fix the games big problems, even if it does benefit a few as a side effect. The many of us likely won't care if it does.

Just to say, I don't hate the idea, I love it. But I was merely pointing out why I personally think the Devs won't do it. (From past experience with Vendor storage etc)

I also think your underestimating who would use vendors for storage, A while ago vendors added into house storage because of the problem. They then solved it by adding variable vendor charges for expensive items.

I couldn't care less about the people who would use this for extra storage. Typically they are the same people that will have multiple accounts for housing, storage and extra characters and the game will continue to benefit from this. It will have little impact on UO's bottom line and that is what really matters to EA/Mythic.

The pros would appear to out weigh the cons at this point, at least to me.

On the subject of accesses in general; can we have an alliance member access please? And one for ronins, across guilds and allied guilds? Would be bloomin handy!

Rental vendor issues already cause idoc houses to go OSI, so please limit this idea to only vendors owned by the home owner.

Two thumbs up for trying to help poor players and stopping the greedy players.

However people being people, I think some crafty poor players would soon see the benefits of buying low and selling high.

Setting access rights on a home owned vendor sounds easy.

Guessing which poor player will be smart enough and greedy enough to buy everything off the cheap vendor they are accessed to and resell for higher in Luna, well, that sounds like it will be a bit harder to do.

Re: Seriously a BAD idea.

As you did read vendor access permissions, I did assume first, allowing characters from other accounts to maintain vendors (add or change stuff and prices, add gold and view the vendor related information).
This I would consider usefull for multi account users and for people, who want to share their vendor with a friend or a guildmate.
