Stuck at 97.5 Taming

I been raising taming on Bulls for some time. I was told that bulls could take me up to 105, however I been cranking away for about 3 hours now with no gains.

I was wondering if there is another critter that I would have a better chance to gain skill on. First time tamer.

Thanks

I usually get decent gains taming unicorns (or ki-rins if a male tamer character) while wearing jewelry or other items that keep taming skill in the 104-109 range. I like to kill them for the horned leather to turn in at the library, but other people enjoy turning them in at the zoo.

I think the other animals usually suggested at the level you're at now are ridgebacks and cu sidhe, but you'll also have to put on jewelry to reach the optimum level for each one. I don't do the ridgeback thing because it's generally a scripter's paradise, so I'm not sure what jewelry you'll need to use for them. You will need a supply of savage kin paint.

Because my tamers are usually humans, I haven't done much in the way of taming cu sidhe. However, I know many many people swear by taming them to get taming gains. I'm sure they also enjoy the side benefit of possibly getting a nice hued one in the process. :)

Taming Bulls took my Tamer all the way to 120, so it does work but it's a very long boring road

If you switch to Unicorns you get the extra bonus (like Tina said) either horned leather or Zoo donation points

I also used to tame two Bulls and get them to attack each other to help raise my vet whilst healing them,

If you start following the guide for what to tame and tame those creatures that are donation list you can end up with some neat items. However it take a lot of donations

Bulls should be able to take you to 105, but it's possible you've just hit a wall. You can find guides stickied on this forum and also in the tamer profession pages on Stratics, which will help you find other beasties for training on.

A simple thing which is easily overlooked - have you got your taming skill set to raise and available skill points? ;)

Lefty, if you've got another skill turned down, which one is it? Some skills decay slower than others.

While working on a new tamer I've kept a log of my gains. One characteristic pattern is what I would call 'lumpiness'.

Ever so often I have to tame *a lot* more animals to get a gain, than what I would expect from the previous gains. Example: Between 90 and 91 I would get a gain on every 7 white wolves - on average. However, 5 of those gains required only 1-3 wolves, while one gain required 23 wolves.
Lumpiness. Or walls.

Another observation I've made is that these walls can often be climbed by taming another type of creature. Example: From 89 to 90,2 I tamed Great Harts. To get from 90,1 to 90,2 I tamed 14 great harts, then one white wolf.
The gain for 91,9 came on a gaman after taming 16 white wolves.

For those who know something about statistics, you'll know that such a phenomenon could arise by chance and biased observation (we tend to notice 'noticeable' events). That gain for 91,9 might have come from the 17th white wolf, and I wouldn't have noticed it. However, variation have always seemed to help me get past these walls. If the bulls won't budge, try something else. Remember: You can gain from a wide variety of animals / monsters at any given level of skill. We just tend to focus on the docile ones because they are more convenient for training purpose.
