Stratics' Forum threads not loading up, what could be the problem ?

I have a weird problem with trying to read Stratics' Forum threads.

Once I enter UHall, for example, and do the login, I get the list of the available threads. Now, if I click on any of the threads, it starts loading, but stops after sometime and I can only see up to the advertisement just below the Home Forums > UO Stratics Forums > UHall bar. The thread which should show up below the ad does not appear.

Eventually, if I keep trying realoding and realoding the thread I want to to read, it finally shows up but sometimes it takes very many tries and it is quite annoying.

What might be the issue ?

Thanks for the help.

I have been having this issue as well, and I noticed that this happens when certain ads show up.

This leads me to believe that those particular ads have some really bad formed html, which is causing the page to not be rendered properly in some browsers.
I haven't checked the html source the last times, but I will do it the next time it happens again to confirm if this is indeed the case.

Would you please tell/pm/email me which ads, if you think of it? I don't know if that's the cause, but we can tell our advertiser to turn off certain ads if they're interfering with our operations.

Sorry to hear that. Ads are turned off for staff, so if it is ad-related, then we'll need your help tracking down the offenders.

Hope we can get it resolved soon!

Just e-mailed our ad partner to inform them of the issue. They'll probably want to know which ads, specifically, are the offenders, but maybe they'll have other ideas too.

We don't have a Lord British ad. The notices at the top of the forum are just html--not rich media ads, like in our leaderboard banner and sidebar ad.

Yeah, but it may be that certain ads are the big offenders. If people report issues with the same ad or same few ads, maybe that'll give us an idea of what's wrong.

This has also been happening to me 85% of the time I click on a thread, only opens to the add and have to continually reload, or go back to UHall and click it again a number of times. It appears to have started about 3-4 days ago. Will check which adds next time it happens.

It has started to happen also for me a few days ago. I did not think about the ads being a problem but now that this has been mentioned I will pay attention when it happens again to what ad the loading stops at.

Please continue to provide input that will help us identify the offending ads, as well as data related to your browser and so forth. I have been checking every few hours with an ad-enabled account with Chrome, but have only seen it once or twice. If we could host Stratics for free, there would be no ads, but that's not a luxury we have. Accordingly, we need to either identify the cause of the problems or try our luck with a new ad partner.

Happened several times for me today, but I couldn't stop to grab screen grabs or more details about it.
I noticed that, checking the page source, it loaded fully, but as pointed on my post, there's a div or span that is preventing it to show fully.
I couldn't identify the culprit tag at the brief check I did at the html.

Next time I have it happen, I will save the html source so I can analyze it properly at my time off and identify what is breaking the page.

Ok just spent the last hour trying to get pages to load. All the pages with the thin adds as posted above, plus the acai one, and a car one and numerous others, pretty much all the adds in the thin format like above are blocking the pages from loading. The ONLY page i can get to load now are the ones with the Richard Garriot live on tgn add on it. If it doesnt have that one I can't load at all. It is funny for a day things were fine, now it has started up again and is even worse.

I am still having this very annoying problem which greatly limits my capacity to browse Stratics but I did notice something odd.

First of all, I am using as a browser Mozilla Firefox 14.0. Now, when I load up the Forums (like UHall for example but also Shards Forums and Professions'...) I do not seem to recall the load up to stop at the ad. I get the listing of the Forum with all the threads listed as normal. Yet, also the Forums have the ads and I have the impression that they are the same as those in the threads.

Now, if the problem was the ads why would the thread not load up past the ad but the Forums did ?

I did also another try, even though I much prefer to use Mozilla Firefox, I tried to load up the threads using Explorer (which is the one I am using now to write this post as I could not load up this thread using Firefox...), I am using IE 8.
Well, using IE I was able to load up the threads past the ads.

So, now, I am confused.

I did not change anything in my Firefox settings and before I was able to load the threads just fine (the problem started showing up about 10 days or so ago...) so, how come now I cannot load the threads up but I can the Forums ?

And why using IE I can load up the threads ?

I really cannot figure out what it might be, it really is confusing.....

It must be some sort of conflict between Mozilla Firefox and Stratics' threads loading but since I changed no settings whatsoever of my browser and before I was able to load up the threads why am I now getting this annoying problem ?

I'd much prefer to go back to be able to use Firefox as my browser of choice to read Stratics but I guess for the time being untill this problem is sorted out I will have to use IE.........

I apologize for my ignorance, but how do I disable javascript with Mozilla Firefox ? Will the disabling affect somehow my browsing of the internet ?

Thanks a lot.

But be aware that this will affect your internet browsing.
Most interactive sites rely on Javascript to deliver dynamic content and handle user input.
Hmmmm, then I guess I better not change it and just wait that they fix the problem to be able to back again read Stratics' threads.......
For the time being, even though I do not prefer to use this browser, I will use IE to browse Stratics' Forums.

Maybe someone on the Stratics staff who speaks Japanese can contact this individual so he can help spread the word through other means that the issue is being addressed and ask that people just be patient for now and/or tell them what kind of information they can post here to help try to resolve the problem?

Hello!
純戦士のおっちゃんだよ!
(Here is PureFighter00!)
Now I 'm testing with IE, I can connect here. (But system shows some error message below;)
var _comscore = _comscore || []; _comscore.push({ c1: "8", c2: "6135404", c3: "25", c4: "12966", c10: "3420919" }); (function() { var s = document.createElement("script"), el = document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; s.async = true; s.src = (document.location.protocol == "https:" ? "https://sb" : "http://b") + ".scorecardresearch.com/beacon.js"; el.parentNode.insertBefore(s, el); })();
And passed time, I tested with Google Chrome. It perfectly block UOSS login / Read thread functions. Is it great.... In a reverse meaning.

BTW, Biggest issue is "A phenomenon is not fixed" Sometimes can't login (Never rise up Login menu...), the other time can't load thread data, sometimes can connect, but never input 2-byte code.... So many troubles come up now. I wonder how to tell it step by step:confused:

Since the places of the my main activity are Japanese SNS and UO Forum, it is not a problem that UOSS cannot be accessed and it is not stress, either.
I want you to help other Japan Forum users rather than me.
See here;
http://stratics.com/community/threads/%E5%88%9D%E3%82%81%E3%81%BE%E3%81%97%E3%81%A6.283190/

She not good at English, Since she wants to tell everybody about her opinion, she strains her courage and is contributing in poor English.
Although she wanted to contribute in Japanese, since Japanese could not input into UOSS, English was used enduringly.

Probably there will be many users who have the same pain.

Regards!
しっかりやってくれやー!

Add note:
I read all of information here, I will pass these information via Japanese UO Player SNS "うおみん"
If you know official comment of this issue or related information, input me, PLS!!

OK, I've been trying for two days to get back into this thread to post the ads I've been having trouble with. Was home sick and trying to research a new template, so very frustrating! I don't know how to do what others have above, so here is what I know:

I am in New Zealand, ISP is Telecom, using Firefox.

While trying to load three different threads I had:

Your ad choices 38 times
Givology 20 times
Discovertheforest.org 8 times
Alzheimers Assn 4 times
Adoptuskids.org 6 times
and the Smokey the Bear wildfires ad 4 times.

Also, alarmingly, towards the end of my patience and this episode, I was getting no banner ads at all, simply the bar at the top of the page with "Home Forums UO Stratics Forums" etc etc. At one point I tried using IE and wierd things happened (contend all... mushed together, text overlaying images etc... sorry, techno-idiot!).

I hope you guys are able to clear this up. I miss my Stratics :(

Hi stray Llamas! This is Vessel from Japan

Now I can connect here with Google Chrome (Ver. 21.0.1180.83)
But now, can't connect with IE (Ver. 9.0.8112.16421). WHY?

I think that this problem is caused by the notation of HTML.
Probably the notation which is not right will also have there a browser which can be encoded normally, and a browser which cannot be encoded.
I contributed the argument (although it is very useful, the user currently faced with a problem cannot read) here to SNS for UO users of Japan Local about 12 hours ago.
If you stray Llamas who can connect here, Please pass these information to your local Forum / Fansite / SNS.
Maybe it is very very VERY helpful.
And, Please write down your Browser and its version.
Although it is magic spell which do not understand us for it well, for engineer who adjust a forum program, it becomes very important information.
P.S. The problem which cannot input Japanese directly was corrected unawares.
Probably, the hamster has eaten an Bug. Thank you Hamsters!

The problem is still happening for me as well.
So, until it gets fixed, I am just browsing stratics with javascript disabled.
Luckily, Opera allows me to set this per site, so it doesn't affect my browsing on other sites.

For people that are having this problem, I suggest that you check if your browser has a per domain javascript setting, or use a second browser, such as IE, to browse Stratics with javascript disabled until the AD people get the problem fixed.

i've a spot of page hanging - my only clue was it was waiting/hang at...
Code:
 tap-cdn.rubiconproject.com
i upgraded to the latest browser release that was not a nightly build
(Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:14.0) Gecko/20120715 SeaMonkey/2.11) , plus added that to my HOSTS file
and it seems to have helped, because it hasn't recurred

I really think BeaIank was on to something vis-a-vis the mistyped comment tag. I'm not very technical, but that could do it.

I will post a new report with IE 9, Firefox and Chrome later, which will likely point at the same problem, even though I'd rather not have to install the last two browsers on my poor laptop.

Oh, the sacrifices one has to do for debugging! :p
