It's nothing special, just a blending of newer technology with older... if you notice all those images are .gif format... animated .gif images are quite common and have been used for ages, what's newish though is how people are now using hi-resolution images as the basis.wonders how your doing that.

(espacially the third one with running water is utterly kitsch, you have to admit)
There is a Vuitton logo on Mona Lisa, so what? What does this have to do with gifs NOT being the future of photography?
