Does anyone know how much skill you need in stealth to avoid passive detection from players and or monsters even? I have 80 stealth, all meddable gear and seems like i cant even stealth through a dungeon without a monster or something revealing me if i get halway close to it. 80 used to be fine last i remember but not now i guess lol, maybe 120 now? I realize there is passive detection but how much skill does it take to avoid it if you can? Can anyone shed some light on this?

You're mixing up the skill required for 100% chance to successfully initiate stealth, with passive detection. 80.0 Stealth is required to have 100% success chance to initiate stealth while in all meddable armor.

Players and Monsters always have a chance to passively detect you if you move within 4 tiles of them (except on Siege), even with GM Hiding/120 Stealth. The closer you move to them, the higher the chance. So moving to within 2 tiles of the target, has a higher chance of being passively detected to moving within 3 tiles of them. Moving within 1 tile of them, is pretty risky, even if you have 120 Stealth and the person/monster has low Detect Hidden skill.
SE monsters in particular have a high Detect Hidden skill, meaning they have a high passive detect chance, and their Reveal spell is more likely to reveal you as well. Elven Players have a higher passive chance to detect you as well. Human players have an innate 20.0 Detect Hidden skill as part of JOAT.

It's one of the reasons that Stealth Archers are so powerful compared to Stealth Melee. Stealth Archers never need enter the range that subjects them to passive detect chances, while Stealth Melee are required to enter that range.

ty that helps make a little more sense to me lol. So basically a melee stealther in pvp is useless for surprise attacks, but if you have to run away it might make getting away a little easier

Stealth Archers can use Surprise Attack as well. They can also use Backstab. Only Stealth Melee can perform Focus Attack or Ki Strike, or use Death Strike effectively. If you're just popping out of stealth to initiate your first attack, you're better off using Dismount than any of the Ninjitsu abilities, including those that can only be initiated from Stealth (Surprise Attack, Backstab).

Stealth Archers also have a much greater ability to get away when they fail to land a shot from stealth. They can shoot off a Dismount from 8 tiles away, and if it misses, move one tile away and immediately hide and stealth around. They're only visible (attackable) for a split second then.
Stealth Melee on the other hand, first have to sneak into melee range, then attack, and if the attack misses, they have to get 9 tiles away from the target before they can hide and stealth. That's if they don't use a Smoke Bomb, or land a hit with Shadowstrike (even then, i've been passively detected before when stealthing away after just landing a Shadowstrike).

Stealth Archers are exponentially safer and easier to play than Stealth Melee, and are more effective because of their range. It's why Stealth Melee are practically extinct, and Stealth Archers had rule over the land for years.
