Starting Area Observation

Perhaps this was somewhere in all the fine print of the expansion, but I stumbled across this interesting anomaly over the weekend:

A blood elf can do the blood elf starting area, then move to UC and do the undead starting area, then the orc/troll starting area, then the tauren starting area, etc. No biggie.

An undead character, once it finishes the undead starting area, cannot do the blood elf starting area. The quest givers are there, you can talk to them, you can read the quests, but they have no exclamation point, and the thing to click in the text box to get the quest is not present.

Interesting.

I think the absence of the gold exclamation point is level/experience based. Similar to when Eldorian went back to the Night Elf starter lands on his 55+ Hunter. That was when he was trying to get an elven kitty. He could go all the back to the 0-5 Level area fo elves and do each of the quests, as long as he knew which ones offered them.

Truthfully, I think Eldorian did a lot of "clicking" on the NPC's, and probably enjoyed it.
Only kidding.

But that does not explain why your BE could do all of them and not others, hrmm. More Dew needed before discussing further.

When you first posted this, I wasn't sure, so I hadn't answered... but now since I've been doing Blood Elf quests with my blood elf who is now level 15, I started noticing something.

I'd suddenly start getting new quests out of no where. Sometimes these new quests would appear after I did a certain quest, which I thought was weird, but I think I can explain it now.

I think a LOT of the Blood Elf quests are based on your reputation with them.

Since the majority of the Horde start out neutral with the blood elves, it's going to be tough to gain that reputation with them in the first place in order to level with them.

That's an interesting hypothesis. Maybe I'll post the question over on the WoW forums (not today, natch, since the wackos come out on patch day).

What I had noticed in running an undead over to Silvermoon was that while passing through the land between the gates of Silvermoon and the actual starting area, there were numerous exclamation points. Everything seemed normal. In the starting area, there were none. I couldn't quite remember where the quest givers were, so clicked on a whole bunch of NPCs, and couldn't get any quests.

So I deleted another character (man, I hate that 50 character cap) and created another blood elf to see who actually gives the quests. Exclamation points showed up, quests were given. Log back with the undead, no exclamation points, no quests given (although, as I mentioned, the text for the quest was there).

There would be a way to empirically test the hypothesis. Create another character (yes, I deleted the undead one), do the other Evensong Woods quests, get to "friendly," then see if the quests show up. Easier just to post the question.
