Starting a crafter

Hello my wife and myself have been thinking of starting new characters on Siege. My question would be are crafters still in high need or do people just start 2nd accounts and make stuff themselves? My wife loves crafting and I do as well but we would like to be needed vs how our crafters our on a production shard.

Thanks,
~Salem~

I will tell you, if you want fast cash, become a resource gather. Mining ore and stone, chopping wood, and gathering leather of various types will get you a fine collection of gold...quick...la

Well being just a resource collector gets very boring very fast. We'd like other options available to us then just collecting things.

If I'm not mistaken you are the leader of a thief's guild. My other option for a character here would be a thief. How viable is a thief on Siege?

siege really is the only server where thieves are still viable.

As for crafting, the only problem is the people who have been here forever already have castles full of ****. So when they buy something new, they look for specific items and the like. *shrug* will always be stuff you can sell but less is in demand then when UO was still in its glory days.

can still make a buck or two, though get ready to spend half your time or more just collecting resources to use for yourself once you start doing bods, lol.

Crafters are still needed here. Many people do have their own crafters, but there are many that do not. I think there is a big need for alchemists. If you are willing to put a house here and do bods, that will make you ALOT of gold. Runic hammers and kits, as well as CBDs are in big demand.

Good luck. Welcome to Siege!

If your wanting to make some decent gold right away you should seriously do the resource gathering. If im not mistaken Patty and Enigma have made some new people fairly rich.

Yeah I know we are going to need a good amount of gold to get started. Gathering resources to start with is fine with me. I've done it many times on my production shard so its no big deal to me. I just won't be doing that the entire time I play on Siege.

As for finding a community to join as crafters any suggestions?

True story. I do believe Hooder bought his keep with the gold we paid him for leather. :)

For starters I would suggest contacting Shalimar, or one of the co-leaders, of NEW. I forget who the co-leaders are! NEW will help you get the basics to start. *SOME* players will respect the NEW tag and not PK you. Or, they will kill you but rez you and help you out.

Crafters are REALLY and constantly needed. I personally buy the following things regularly from vendors:

pots
trapped boxes (a really good seller!)
shurikens
egg/smoke bombs

I also used to sell lots of GM leather armor, but I'm still loaded with it, so I don't buy much.

Also, several guilds keep vendor houses near the moongates. Join one of those, or just ask around and someone will probably let you place vendors in good spots. Luna is not the best place for vendors, since it's usually a battleground.

Very, but do yourself a favor and be creative with your thief template. unless you have a bunch of soulstones, it might help to have more of a thug thief to start off. At least when the marks are hiding, you can go out and kill a few beasties for some extra gold. Again...killing harts can net ya an awful lot of gold if you collect their hides...la

So which resources are in highest demand... Ingots, Wood, Leather? All of them?

I actually enjoy resource gathering, and that would give me something to do while I try to think up a decent template.

Yeah :coco:

All - wood is hard tho, I think the primary kind in demand is bloodwood. With wood, runic saws and fletcher sell for big bucks but are very hard to get.

Ingots went through the roof with the change in runic hammers.

Leather of all kinds is needed for BoD, spined for luck and barbed/horned for armor.

Don't forget you need arms lore if you plan to make armor/weapons.

Bod are great for training tailoring. If you decide not to do BoD after training, your collection can be sold.

Hardest thing about crafting is picking the mix - hard to do it all with one account.

RoT is your best friend.

If you do mining I always buy or trade for iron ingots.

Leather is always big demand, but its also easy to farm. Wood and ingots are both easy to gather, but time consuming. Not very many sell ingots ont he shard either which is why prices are 20+g for iron much less colors.

As a vendor. If you make the things people want, you will make a bundle. That thing about all of us having Crafters may be true. Many vets are lazy and would rather just buy it. Sell enough and you can be a lazy vet too.

GM barbed leather
apples
shrus/*** darts/guns
potions
aids
cloth
arrows
resources (leather, ingots, gems, bones, wood, everything resource)
runics hammers/sew kits/saws/fletch kits
runic armor
runic weapons
powder of fort
bods
plants (especially orange petals)
gate scrolls
t-maps (lvl 6 most prefer)
marties - hearts of lion, violets courage, polar bear mask, and shield of invuln sell like hot-cakes
ML marties - totem of void, brightsight lenses, boomsticks are in high demand

a carpentry shop would be nice... but, I know it wont sell much... but would be nice to have one to go to.

As a vendor... you could make a killing by consistantly having your stuff stocked. Trust me... theres a lot of people who need this stuff and a lot of people looking for a reliable shop to purchase them from.

You will have more business here as a crafter... than anywhere else in UO, I guarantee it.

What would people like to see on a carpentry shop? I have tons of various furniture, containers, and add-ons laying around. I suppose I could slap up a vendor and sell the stuff real cheap. I would hate to lose money on it, though.
However, it would free up space in my keep.....okay I am just thinking aloud now.

The chick sells furniture on her vendors, but I don't know how much. I keep a small collection of add ons, but they only sell occasionally.

A carpentry vendor is sadly not a good money maker on Siege and in fact is likely to cost the owner money to keep up, which is a shame. If they made furniture wear out it would be a different story.

I have to admit that when I was playing regularly, I routinely bought furniture I didn't at all need (and could have made myself) from Queen Zen, Maleeka, and The Chick's vendors because it was sad to see well tended vendors with items that never seemed to moved.

just an idea for you carpenters out there:

instead of risking to loose money by putting on furniture that nobody buys, wouldn't it be an idea to leave a note with an icq number on a vendor.
that way people can get in touch with the carpenter and order specific items that will be bought by them for sure...i am sure i have seen this before dont remember where though

That is a good idea Max. Also, I have seen people place requests on Stratics.

Petra, I hate to ask this, but where are Chick's vendors?

Near Yew gate, South from where mine are on Mo's tower. Sorry I can't give you accurate co ords.

The house is a sandstone coloured brick in a 'distressed' state.

That and bulletin boards works great... if you check them... maybe make the note both on the vendor and the board.

But, yeah... you will lose money. I just hate one day coming up with a project and looking for... lets say benches to build a rune library or something silly... and there being no carpenters.

the problem is that theres no need for them... once you have a bed, you take an axe to it... and it never decays, 100% reusable.

the devs were never good at economics apparently.
