Staring into the abyss of 100+ skill gain

So, I recently hit GM on my taming skill, and boy did that sure slow down once I hit 99+. I swear going from 99-100 took about as long as 95-99 did!

I think part of the problem is that I'm still skilling up on gamans, and maybe they are getting too easy for consistent gains. Either that, or maybe skillgain is just *this* slow!

I've looked at the taming guide to see what creatures are available to tame, but I was wondering if I could get advice from people on the best way to raise skill past this point. For example, bake kitsunes are are slower to tame than gaman because they are A) far more dangerous B) are located in more dangerous areas, with additional aggro. My question is, is taming bake's the better approach? Higher skill gain chance per tame, but each tame takes much, much longer.

I was just curious what the elders here on this forum have found from their personal experience. What was the route you found best when skilling 100+?

EDIT: I'm away of GGS and am taking full advantage of it, but I'd like to be getting skill gains other than every other day or so

It is always (unless the buggers have changed it) quantity over quality. Just find the animals that are in your gain range and tame like mad. I did between 1 1/2 to 3 hours of power taming per day till I got over about 117, then GGS'd it. Got my 120 on a powder blue pup too.
What you should be looking for is the most successful tames in a time period.
Instead of just gamens, try mixing it up with bulls and also go into the savage village in the riddgie pen and tame those. Along with taming gains, you can also skin em and get leather too. Just tame, let the savage kill em, skin em, rinse repeat.
The non-aggressive tames will give you a better chance to gain as you don't have to dodge the attacks especially if you go after ones with anger cycles.
If you go into the savage village, just remember to wear savage paint and do NOT command the riddgie after you tame it. The savage will auto-target it. If you have it commanded (ie guard, kill) the savage paint will burn off and you will take a dirtnap. Unless you are gm running.

Yep, what Timberwolf said. Check with your mates to see if any will make a batch for you. Or check around, some vendors may have it for a reasonable price. What shard are you on? I may have an extra for you to start on.

There are many different ways to approach training.

If you Soulstone all skills but taming, you should get 3-4 GGS per day.

I would probably train on some pets I want to own. You'll need to tame/kill an awful lot Mares and Kits before you get keepers. This way you'll gain skill, get a load of gold/hides and a couple of nice pets to keep or sell.

If you can add Music & Peace to your char, you'll tame Mares and Kits a lot faster and safer.

Personally I can't stand sitting in a farmyard and taming Bulls for hours on end.

I agree, but if you are going to go for ones like those, its best to train up tactics on something that won't chew you up in 3 seconds lol. After training up music and peace, they are easier, but you should still get basics on lead taming and timing. Good ones for those are drakes, frenzies, imps and such. I trained in del in fel for bulls. Having reds show up gave a little spice. Plus, the respawn time was faster. But it did get hard to stay there for more than 10 mins lol. I tried to change things up so I didn't get bored in one place. Once you get your skills and confidence up, Destard is a great place to train taming under fire.
