Various sizes of wooden crate were scattered around the house. From the workshop to her office items sat haphazard and sprawled as they waited to be tucked in some crevice and surrounded by hay. Those who move frequently are said to count their lives by the increase in boxes with each move. In her case she not only counted boxes, but she counted casualties.
The Abandoned Wind sailed from Magincian shores leaving her parents in its wake. This time, it would be Valek. She could count down to the minute the last time she had seen him. Long stretches of departure were customary for a ship's captain. And it had never been her intention to replace the sea as his life. But, this was much more than an extended stretch. Salt lingered on the breeze coming in off the beach and she turned towards the window. Gazing out at the sunlight as it reflected off the water she watched as the tide came in, carrying with it small amounts of kelp and shells. When the tide rolled out again, her items would be on it.
