I finally decided to do some testing with the different armor types to see what the difference in stamina loss is. My plan is to go with a suit that is part wood, part metal, part studded, so I wanted to see what I thought the stamina ramifications of this might be between a suit that was all of 1 or another.
I came to some conclusions:
Current HP seems to be the biggest factor, though armor type matters.
There seems to be some variability, not a lot, but I am not convinced that A curr hp * x damage = y stam loss is a constant equation.
Studded = Woodland. Not sure this was a question, but this seems true.
Metal armor is... well its quite a bit better.
Someone maybe should do the test where every potion is at max stam and max hp, because as you can see below, the damage -> loss ratio is all over the map, due partly because of the seeming relationship between current hp and stamina loss.
My method: went with 5 pieces of armor only, since studded has no helm. Made a suit of each. Held 10x greater explosions. Generally, as soon as I wrote down the result and was back to full stamins, I clicked another explosion. When I got to ~50 hp, healed back to full.
Here's my findings, in the form (damage done, stamina lost). Note that the ration of loss to damage goes up, then back down, so you can kinda see where I did my heals at.
