Stable Slots Increase

Rather then bump an old thread i thought i'd express my idea about stable slots.
Some people want more, i am one of those people.

How about making it related to control slots?

Is a tamer has 120 lore make it so that tamer has 120 control slots in the stables. Thats 24 gds, or 120 horses.

I think it should be tied to one skill either lore or taming.

This allows a nice healthy limit to what people can have.
Make the base or minimum 4 or 5 slots (gift for miners)

The issues:

Tamers are powerful only because of their pets, people have a problem helping out powerful templates and i get that, but this wouldn't allow tamers to have more than 5 control slots walking around so i don't see how it would effect the community and hunting in a bad way.

I believe though i could be mistaken that all information about a character moves with him/her. So like your bank box being with you wherever you are, only invisible, i think what you have in the stables is with you too. The stables and banks only act as access points.
So this could cause lag or server holdup, but i believe this isn't really an issue as big as the devs would make you believe, especially with the low population in uo.

Hey, just a thought. Let me know what you think, I'm sure I've missed something.

Thank you

Well I don't know how the bank and stables are technically managed by the game so no opinion about it.

Regarding the 120 lots .... I'm the first to always complain that i don't have enough stable lots. So don't get me wrong, having more would be wonderful, but 120 is a little bit excessive in my opinion.

I don't doubt that I would be able to fill those, but I'm sure i would never play with half the pet I would keep.

What about something like :
For every 10 skill points in any of the 3 "tamer" skills (taming, lore, vet), one more slot.
Meaning you have 30 taming lore and vet you have 9 stable slots
With 360 you have 36.

More than enough I think ?

And for those who have houses, what about 1 to 10 stable slots depending of the size of the house ? Same as the storage capacity.
They could add something you have to craft, that would look like something you find in stables. It could work like the chicken coop except that the max capacity would depend on the storage of the house.

That would be more useful for chars who don't have any "tamer" skill but need extra slots.
Like those chars who are miners or lumberjack but can fight too.
They need a swampy, a blue beetle, a fire beetle, one or two packy and maybe a golem ? That would never fit in the stables, but with the added house stable slots, no more problem :)

I still don't think haveing 16 with the new added 2 slots is to bad. If you want more you do like I did and have 2 tamers for a total of 32 pets. 32 leaves a lot of room if you stick to only really good pets.

Well that's what I did, but 32 pets on 2 tamers is not the same ...

And of course 16 is enough to have one of each "useful" pets, meaning the ones who are the most efficient to fight.
But if you add colors, and fun pets and rare ones, and pack ones (so 5 of those) well it's a lot.

I wasnt saying 120 stable slots that would be crazyness i was saying 120 control slots if you had 120 lore. Maybe that is too many, but instead of having actual stable slots, have an amount of control slots your stable can utilize. So a greater counts as 5 slots, a horse a 1. That is what my idea is.

I would never suggest 120 stable spots, maybe restrict it to 40 max and that's only if they were 1 control slot pets.

I think that would allow people to have some freedom with collecting like the chicken coops allow people to have many colored chicken lizards.

What do ya think?

Ah ok I get it now :)

Well your idea would work it would be a good numbre of additional stable slots but nothing crazy.

But it's a big change in the way the stable command checks if there's room available.
It would be easier to modify the code if it's close of what is done now.
Actually it checks your 3 "tamer" skills level and depending of the value has a number of max slots. It checks too how many pets are already stabled and knows how many slots are still available (maybe not exactly like that but it has to be close)

It should be easier to just check the same but change the parameters than to modify everything.

With your idea you just check one of the 3 skills and after you have to check not only how many pets are already stabled, but witch ones too, calculate how many control slots that represent and then see if there is enough left for the pet you want to stable ....

It's possible of course but more complicated, so that's more work and more risk to have a bug.

And for us players it'll become complicated to know if we have enough room to stable a pet or not. Or we should ask to add another feature to the stables that tell us how many slots are used. That's again more updates to the code.

I think the devs would go more easily for a light change rather than a big one.

You are undoubtedly 100% correct on all counts here, It is too complicated a request but i just thought it was a creative solution and thought I'd share.

I do some code for flash games, I'm a student trying to break into the game design world and i think the changes wouldn't be very difficult but I've never worked on anything this big so i cannot be sure.

Thank you for your input!

hehe well for creativity I give you 20/20 :)
It sure would have been an interesting way to do it.

I was more in a "would the devs go for it" way of thinking ;)

Thats always the way of thinking i overlook. I'd love to intern there at mystic or something and try stuff like this everyday, just try as much as i could to make the game most fun.

I spend way too much time thinking of ways to do that anyway

Thank you

They gave every character (not just tamers) a 2-stable slot increase just a couple of months ago if the character is on an account that has been upgraded with the SA expansion. (http://www.uoherald.com/news/news.php?newsid=932 - Publish 60 notes. Look at the very bottom under the Miscellaneous heading.) I doubt we'll see another stable slot increase any time soon.

I was made aware after i made the thread, But i still believe there should be more for everyone, not to a ridiculous degree but i don't think more is unfair.

I agree that my idea or any ideas surrounding the addition of stable space wont be visited for a long long time
