[SPHS] February 2017 Chronicle

Another busy month on Siege Perilous! Here are the high points:

Conclusion of the [SPHS] Fishing Tournament - Started in the last week of January, this tournament resulted in some records being smashed as well as every trash can in the land being filled with shoes and boots. After a long week at sea, II returned to harbor with a 225 stone monster, easily capturing the overall largest fish record. You can see the long list of records and participants at [SPHS] Shard Fishing Tournament! 1/29-2/4 2017 Congratulations to all of the winners, and a final thank you from the Siege Perilous Historical Society to all of the participants!

[GIL] February Auction - A more toned down auction this month, with fewer poison fields and big-ticket items. However, one of the bennuite crystals from last month's event did sell for a whopping 9.5 million! The rest of the items that sold, along with their price and buyer, can be found at this link: GSF Auction February '17

Warbott Discovers Piracy - Riding home from Zento Mint one day, I passed a new-to-Siege player who hailed me to a stop. He asked me about cannons. "Cannons?" I replied. He had mentioned veteran rewards, so it took me a moment to understand what he really wanted was ship cannons. As with all things related to the High Seas of Britannia, I sent him to seek GarthGrey. For the remainder of the morning I (and everyone else in GC) followed Warbott's discovery of piracy. This was easy to do since he typed a play-by-play account of his travels. Garth and I chuckled to each other when Warbott captured his first merchant ship, and we both noted his enthusiasm. I even considered offering him an invitation to [SPHS], Avatar save me! Because soon after....

Warbott Discovers Trash Talk - It is true, we've had a noted uptick in new players arriving to the shard. Many of these players are coalescing into small PVP oriented groups. Warbott was no different. But this humble chronicler must confess, Warbott brought a new level of ignorant obliviousness to the scene. As Three IDOC Day progressed (more on that later), our intrepid young pirate / PKer-in-training seemed to always miss the mark. While roughly 20 players slugged it out in brutal alley fighting at the North Luna Gate, Warbott continued to look for a fight just a screen South at Luna Mint. The Trash Talk Champion continued his diatribe as players were resurrected in the East Luna Gate (again, just one screen away). He really got rolling just as the street fighting transitioned to open field battle just outside East Luna. As combatants collected their gear and rested for the big showdown that was sure to come at the Minoc Keep later, our intrepid young squirrel finally found a nut and discovered that there was an IDOC somewhere north of Minoc.

Warbott Discovers Remorse - After being chased off the premises a few times by VICE alliance skirmishers, Warbott realizes he will need back-up at this IDOC. And where else does a spunky rogue like Warbott turn for IDOC assistance? General Chat, of course! And sure enough, a few also-new-to-the-shard players had his direction in Barter Town. But a "joke"ambush seems to go wrong, and the GC fills up with the he said-she said dialogue of a remorseful Warbott. Not to be discourage, our young hero returns to the Keep where he finds Razz relaxing in the [GIL] bivouac. While Razz gleefully listens to the deprecations of Warbott (something something house-hiding Trammy), [GIL] snickers as Boolean and Co surround our hopeful looter. Curiously, Warbott goes quiet soon after (can you imagine?!)

In the end, our misunderstood misanthrope did achieve some measure of stardom over the course of the month. He joined the ranks of a very select few (three players in 16 years?) in finding his way to my Player Ignore List in chat. Good night sweet prince, sleep well!

Publish 96 Goes Live - Dungeon Doom gets some new additions and new stealables. The in game store gets heritage items back......and wedding items?! A full list of changes can be found at this link: Publish 96 – Ultima Online

Kuzan's 2 x 2 PVP Tournament - Kuzan created a dueling pit at his house and hosted a two on two full loot contest. Several teams signed up;

Team#1 Crunch & Nadir
Team#2 Blitzkrieg & Hunter Perilous
Team#3 Gujek & Pinball Wizard
Team#4 Demonio & Ace
Team#5 Holden Caufield & Sargatanza

see the results at :[Feb 11, 2017] Kuzans 2vs2 Tournament (Kuzans Arena Siege Perilous)

Siege Perilous Developer Meet and Greet - The developers stopped in on a Monday afternoon for a Meet and Greet. Always heartburn inducing, this one continued the tradition of players asking about prior requests, the producer announcing she had not received notice of the request, and the shard EM stepping in and assuring her that he himself had also sent an e-mail on the subject. Coming soon, folks, coming soon. NEWS - Dev Meet and Greet, February 13th at 7pm ET

Siege Perilous Player-Run Casino and Lottery (SPLOTTO) - [ICY] continued its lottery from the previous month, and this month added a Casino night. The area around the Umbra hub has become quite the Shard Vegas in recent months! (EDIT: [ICY] informed me that I forgot to mention Calaman lost his pants, shirt, and undies at Casino night...)

Three IDOC Day - One Friday night, as I prepared to take on Zippy with nine other alliance members (way better than last month's attempt with only two other folks!), I saw one of the other alliance players mention that they had posted information about three upcoming IDOCs. I actually chastised the player in a friendly way, saying that IDOCs were boring, and encouraged them to instead join us. This humble chronicler can admit when he's wrong, and boy was he wrong! The following Sunday morning I decided to swing by the first one scheduled to hit its five-hour timer and 16 hours, two suits, several templates, and an irritated spouse later, I stumbled to bed after Three IDOC Day was over. The player who owned these falling houses was named Myon, and his houses inside the North Luna walls, immediately outside the East Luna gate, and his keep north of Minoc all fell on the same day. Each place was a battlefield of [GIL] players and friends against the VICE alliance.

Even the Bo logged in the bloodbath!

Yet not everyone was there to fight. Talia decided to get comfortable and crafted a seat, taking up station in the middle of the battlefield as the chaos unfolded around her.

By the end of the day, some of us (ok, many, many of us...) had a nice little surprise:

[SPHS] House Decoration and Vendor Contest - The Siege Perilous Historical Society sponsored a new contest this month. Hoping to encourage veteran players to inform the influx of new members to the shard, we held a House Decoration Contest and a Vendor Contest. While participation was surprisingly limited, BabyDoll once again fully committed just as she had with the fishing contest. The house design she submitted can be seen below, and ultimately fell into a category all its own:

When Harry Met VICE - Sometimes when you're up late on the weekend, ideas seem better than they really are by the light of day. After rolling through several spawns, someone in the VICE alliance pointed out that we had enough people and skulls to do a Harrower. Without really thinking it through, several of us met at the Star Room and started placing skulls on the altar. Only then did we realize that some of the folks who had required skulls had logged for the night. Discussion ensued about finishing the required spawn, and at this point several alliance members bailed. But an intrepid few pushed on, collected the remaining skulls, and engaged Harry in Shame dungeon. Unfortunately, Siege's very own ne'er-do-wells, the Luna Boys, arrived to disrupt the attempt.

The following morning our friend Harry still roamed the halls of Shame. Max Blackoak, with the precision of a surgeon, assembled the few alliance members online (4 total!), and lead us back for a second attempt. We penned the beast in a corner with its back to the water, and began pummeling it. Shiver arrived soon after and took up a defensive position at our backs. Once again, Virem arrived. Alone this time, he tried to lure us out and, failing that, attempted to lure mobs to us. We pressed on with our attack, and Shiver watched from the shadows. Ultimately Virem joined us, casting RC's on the tentacles. But when the True Harrower finally fell, Virem (somewhat predictably) went on the offensive. Shiver took one for the team and sprung into action as Eshelle and I stealthed deeper into the dungeon. Once safely hidden, Max ninja'ed his way to us, collected all of our prize, and we made our escape with the full complement of 26 stat scrolls. Take that Harry!

[UWSP] Second Medieval Festival - The United Workers Of Siege Perilous hosted their second medieval Festival this month. In this installment, Freja, Razz, Dionaya, and a few others competed in an archery tournament and pet race. Full details and screenshots (including a hole in Razz's head, *cough*, I mean hat) can be seen at this link: (Player Event) - 2nd UWSP Town Medieval Festival

Siege Perilous versus the Luna Boys - As the month drew to a close, the Luna Boys couldn't resist posting another video. This time four of their members skirmished with both [GIL] and VICE teams around the Ter Mur Luna Boy encampment. Not surprisingly, the video omits losses on their side, but despite that it is still recommended watching. Even though complaints of third-party programs follow in their wake wherever they go, the group maintains a strict discipline of supporting each other during a fight. Sadly, a second report of a reputable player losing a blessed item to the gang came out of this fight. Fighters beware!

EM Bennu Actual Last Event (?) - In last month's Chronicle, we reported on EM Bennu's (at the time) final event, notable for the self-named 'bennuite crystal' drop that marked the occasion. Yet EM Bennu planned an additional event for this month, though sadly he held to the practice of scheduling them during the workday for American players. In this adventure, five bears terrorized the environs around Trinsic. Players had to locate the beasts and fell them as a team. In keeping with the refrain of this month's Chronicle, the Luna Boys attempted to disrupt the event but it's very nature limited their impact. For those who managed to slay the beasts, a total of 15 specially colored bear rugs were awarded. Ru graciously posed beside his for the following picture:

Thanks for another great month Siege!

Your humble servant,

-- Calavera, [SPHS]
