I have no idea why I had not thought of this before, maybe because I am now thinking in a concerted way about loot tables and abandoned systems, more on that later, and in a separate thread.
There are eight rare gem types in UO. Six of them available through mining.
What if an essence of etherial energy was added to the loot table for ML dungeons, like in lower level mini spawns in SA? Creatures in ML dungeons have a chance to spawn a single essence. Maybe boss creatures have a chance for a small stack of essences.
Tinkers could prepare gems to receive enhancement through imbuing. (prepared gems become unstackable, but vendorable)
Imbuers could enhance prepared gems and sell them on a vendor.
Enhanced Turquoise, requires one essence + one prepared turquoise= one spell weaver of 20 skill for focus purposes
Enhanced Ecu Citrine, requires two essence + one prepared Ecu = one weaver of 40 skill for focus purposes
and so on and so forth up to
Enhanced Blue Diamond, requires six essence + one prepared Blue Diamond= one weaver of 120 skill for focus purposes
So a weaver would have the option of going "live" (Weaver and four friends of appropriate level stand on arcane circle for a focus of five, plus one at Brit Bank)
Or weaver has four enhanced gems of appropriate level in pack for a focus of five, or six at Brit bank.
Seems easier than making an NPC class and system, has a trade off of time and effort for benefit.
My only question at this point would be would it be relatively easy to allow a combination of "live" weavers and enhanced gems to be seen appropriately for completing a focus?
Would it be appropriate to look at the time and or benefit bonus alotted for focusses, something lesser, created with gems?
