Spellweaving/Inscription/etc, pros/cons?

I decided to drop Necromancy from my NecroMage (making him of course, not a NecroMage anymore). I just don't dig the Necro system/etc, so... oh well. :D

So that leaves me with Magery/Meditation/EvalInt/Resist.

I'm wondering what to add. Spellweaving? Inscription? Both? Poisoning maybe?

The char is essentially PvM-only. And not interested in Bard stuff on him necessarily - I've always thought of this character as a true "pure mage."

My spellweaving mage:
Magery, meditation, eval int, spellweaving, resist, wrestling.

Spellweaving is a great compliment to magery and meditation.
Every once in a while I think about adding inscription instead of wrestling, but I like being a mage-tank and don't want to use mage weapons. My job in group hunts is to lead the spawn back and cast invisibility on myself before going on the offensive. It's especially effective in Melisande and Bedlam. I can do pretty much anything with this character, but I rarely do it alone, preferring my tamer for solo-hunting.

Yeah - I pretty much solo 99.9% of the time - so I'm wondering what a nice, super-effective layout for that type of play is.

Here's a fun solo-trick for low level thick spawns (aka level 1,2 champs and SA mini-champs)

Cast protection
Cast gift of renewal on yourself
Run into the middle of a thick spawn
Cast essence of wind until either everything is dead or you run out of mana

Here's another trick to use against creatures who dispel all of your energy vortexes:
Cast arcane empowerment
Cast your summon
Watch the carnage (I use this one frequently against succubi in Sanctuary)

Here's a very fun one against powerful creatures near the end of the fight:
Cast reaper form
Cast arcane empowerment
Wear high SDI gear (i.e. scrappers, etc)
Cast word of death

It also works for lower range spells, like e-bolt or flame strike. You can one-hit kill lich lords with reaper form, arcane empowerment and a flame strike (with undead slayer spellbook)

If you know you're going to get into trouble or your ogre lord will get into trouble, cast arcane empowerment ahead of time before you heal. You'll be surprised by the results!

A nature's fury with a level 6 focus is about as effective (but easier to dispel) as an energy vortex. The difference is you can have up to 5 furies out at once.

Attunement (or attune weapon) is like a get-out-of-death free card when used right.

Be careful when accepting ressurections from gift of life. Usually the situation which got you dead is still there when you get the dialog box.

In other words, there are plenty of fun things to do with a spellweaver.

By far the most effective purely PvM mage template (barring taming) is magery, EI, necromancy, spirit speak, meditation, spellweaving... all maxed out, but that just gives me way too many options, so I don't use it.

Ok well I definitely need to get into Spellweaving then. :D

I don't like Necromancy as implemented in UO for some reason. Can't put my finger on it... Just something about it, I dunno. So... Hmmm.

Maybe SW and Inscription? :D

Well, I hated necro at first. I just couldn't quite figure it out myself too. So I made a mage/weaver 120 magery/EI/Med/Wrestle/ResistSpell/SW. And he can deal with a lot. And it got better lately. Just wish it had a little bit more. Plus he runs out of mana quick even with 15 MR and 120 Med/20 human focus.

But compared to necro... I really love necro best. The thing is, you want to get your skills up and then it's much more enjoyable.
You want to use wither to kill crowds.
You can use Spirit speak to heal even when poisoned or mortally wounded. (I find this so convenient and makes me survivable).
You use Pain Spike as a finishing move.
You do nice combos like: corpse skin, evil omen, flamestrike. OMG the damage!

Evil omen is quite nice. Takes some understanding....
it will do MORE damage on your next move, or,
will give the enemy 50% chance to fail on their resist spells, or,
will bump your poison spell one level up.
It adds some welcomed complexity to my killing.

Then... wraith form. This helps me so much with the mana. I just dread running out of mana. Spellweave is like a mana hog and breaks my rhythm when my mana is gone. But my necro keeps going thanks to wraith form, and it's such a relief to not keep interrupting my gameplay due to mana.

Perhaps it's just me, but I do like to play a "thinking" template. I'm glad I gave this a chance, cause I truly love it now.

Exodus dungeon is at Ilsh Compassion > then head to the left (west) > pass the mining gypsy camp, there's a cave there where it takes to to the west of the mountains > keep heading west past that structure with the controllers (more west) > and past the fire elementals > then you see arcane demons and a structure with controllers > enter the downstairs door you see black hole (big black square) that you enter. That's where there's exodus minions and exodus, er, the other one are.

Wish it was marked on the atlas. I'll um, try to figure out those directions... :D
