Spellweaving and playing late nights

It's really hard to find a spellweaver playing late nights that is within the 20 points of the skill my mage has(legendary spellweaving). So am I SOL on being able to get the focus gem because I am no longer able to get the gem because I can't use an abatoir solo anymore?

That's right, it is not only hard to find a Spellweaver, it is difficult to find any company at all. I understand why making a focus with yourself has been removed. It seems unlogic, and a level 1 focus would just be equivalent to making spellweaving more powerful in general. The Arcane Focus is meant as an improvement for a GROUP of Spellweavers.

The problem however is not a lack of Spellweavers, but a lack of players in general. That's what EA should focus on. Get new players to the game, make the game content more interesting! And release a kick-ass client with SA!

I wish EA had thought about the issue of finding other players when they thought of those gems. It's not a skill that everyone has, so reliably finding a group of fellow spellweavers isn't that easy. I'd like to see a series of quests that enable you to join with NPC spellweavers in an arcane circle, so the solo weaver can get a gem, but they have to work suitably hard for it. I'd rather be jumping through loops for a gem than be left unable to get one because nobody I know is online.

I've run into the same problem myself. I used to have a good solution. I had two accounts and a friend who used to play all the time had two accounts, giving us a minimum focus of 4 at all times. He quit and I reduced my accounts to one, leaving me with only being able to get an arcane focus for guild hunts more often than not. I have since mostly shelved my mage-weaver (I tried parry instead of weaving, but that was a fail). I changed my bard weaver to a necro-mage with no weaving. I'm about to change my tamer-weaver to a tamer-shepherd after I'm done with other skill gain projects.

Weaving is great if you can get the focus, but it's too much time out of my play schedule to worry about it too much.

Which brings us back to Pike's point. If we had more players, then it would be less of an issue.

Well I have a weaver on Atlantic. Not sure what shard or time zone you're on, but I am always available for focus late at night.

i have 2 weavers.
use to have a 'focus' group but that kinda died out when they nerfed level 6's

think my legendary spell weaver was able to "focus" once in a group... and never again..

Considering it is hard to find spellweavers period to circle with, would it be too much to ask to remove the within-20-points limit?

hehe, YES! The Spellweaver club...haha. Works for me. Yeah I know people don't like how they have toned down the efficiency and effectiveness of spellweaving, but I still like it as an auxiliary skill.

I do agree with Lady Katherine. They should just remove the focus point requirement of 20.

In response to the solo arcanist issue, perhaps they could implement something where solo arcanists can create the lowest level focus by consuming something like an arcane gem. It would generate more value for arcane gems, generate more reason to hunt in Central Ilshenar, and solo arcanists can enjoy a low level focus as they once were used to.

I think that would be a great idea to impliment. Getting a focus gem shouldn't be "free" so let it cost "x" number of arcane gems.

i like spellweaving so much that i resorted to making spellweavers on each of my 4 accounts. my lady is making 1 on each of her accounts too, so we wont have to worry about searching for spellweavers anymore. the nerf was stupid imo, but i'm sure was implemented due to some sort of cheating ...yet again the honest players pay for some jacka$$' worthless cheating ways. same as it ever was i guess. :grrr:

anyway, i wont turn this into a rant.

i was sitting here thinking about it and thought i'd toss an idea out at everyone interested:

what if there was an npc spellweaver school or something? a place where players can go to circle with npc spellweavers. perhaps charge for a circle of the appropriate level. i dunno. at least then circling wouldnt be damn near impossible!

even when interest in spellweaving was at its peak, and i was in a guild with 100+ members, it was still a problem finding enuf ppl to join for a circle. then BOOM. another nerf!!! as a result, now it takes begging and wandering for sometimes an hour or two, if even then, just to find enuf spellweavers. DOH!

spellweaving is a blast, but nerfing it like they did has seemingly almost destroyed it entirely.

:sad4:

We could also pick a PLACE... and go there at a specific TIME and have some TEAMWORK...

Catskills... meet in New Haven for Focus... 8:00 PM EST
(you will be gated to the Arcane Circle)

Drachen... "I have a spellweaver. I even have a public arcane circle in my shop." Frarc
Set a Time... and I'll be there.

Rest of the Weavers... pick a place/time... make it happen.

Matter of fact message me we see a time to meet for anybody else on atlantic that want to do a circle we'll try to find a way to get togheter.
and see if we can have a atlantic group of spellweavers. Like I said I have 2. 1 at 101 spellweaving and another at 81 spellweaving.

I have 5 accounts, and what I did was skill up a SW'er on each account so that I could always have a level 5 (3 legendary, one at 100, last one at 83).

I don't mind helping people out with a focus.... see, this is something that global chats like in EQ/WoW would help alot with. We could all join a SW'ing channel....

Anyway, if you are on atlantic and need a focus, you can shoot me an ICQ and if I am on, I'll help ya out.

Yes, very good point...and a valid idea. They need global chat in this game just like every other game I've played. Makes sense and would help with communicating things of that nature.

They have global chat already. Had it since the Second Age. I believe Alt-T is the default macro that opens it in 2d. All KR clients seem to be tied to the global chat system. It's how they can add people to their friend list and what not. I'm not sure they can see the chatroom conversations that the 2d clients are having though. We did some experimenting with it early on, but I now forgot what our findings were.

Well, that's interesting. So is that working now? You have to excuse my ignorance since this is new information to me. I will have to give that a whirl. Was nothing anyone told me about before or that I had read anywhere.

Yeah I have always wondered why noone appears to use that Alt-T in-game chat. Personally I find the Alliance and Guild chat options too restrictive for communication. I think there should be an in-game buddy list where you can see if your friends are online or not no matter if they are in the same guild or not. I don't want politics between guild leaders I don't even really know afect my ability to contact my friends. Also faction characters can't be in a guild with non-faction and faction guilds cannot ally with non-faction guilds.

You can flame me if you want and say use ICQ. Yes I do, but (1) its a memory hog and makes my PC too slow for PvP and (2) many people I want to be friends with in UO don't use it or use it infrequently. There should be better in-game tools so we don't have to rely on external programs to maintain community links.

Just need to find a good sized guild with active weavers. My guild has many, many weavers. Lots of them also own multiple weavers for higher chances at getting a lvl 5 focus during the day or evening which is probably a strong 75% of the time.

A work around used to soulstone your legendary spellweaving skill, get some mates (JaT), make a circle with them then get your legendary back from the soulstone.

i think everyone isnt asking the right question..

i understand the power of the focus to strengthen the spell weavers power.
but why does the skill have to suck so bad when you dont have one???

maybe they need to raise the min up 50% and make it not suck if you cant get a focus.
then when you do its that much better..

I for one, have never had a problem getting my focus, it all depends on your guild though. I'm on Catskills and have two accounts with 120 SWers... Several others have the same set up, so two players plus one solo can get a level 6 at Prism. We usually have the least used of our SWers logged out IN prism just to help out those ppl that find themselves short a player as well. More than welcome to message me if you want to run with us if you are on Cats!
