On my shard Sonoma, speed hack use has shot through the roof. Has it been declared legal or something??

If it has not, then all the "anti-cheat" speak from the Devs was nothing but bullspit. Good job there fellas!! :thumbup1:

They are realizing that all this talk about banning cheaters was nothing more than a bunch of crap.

i recently heard about a 45 day ban for speeder use from a guy i had played with for years. He wont be logging in anytime soon. If a GM observes it, you are going to get nailed. but I too have seen sonoma spin out of control. there is a particular guild that has been recently getting active again... they were the speed of avg players and now all the players are casting and riunning insanely fast. it is not a personal connection that is slow for me. everyone sees it.

**it is basically a response to reading all the I have this excell doc... we took action... blah blah blah and not seeing anyone banned. everyone thinks all the producer letters are big talk and small action so they are starting to run programs again.**

So basically what you're saying is...nothing that EA has done to help is good enough? This is getting really ridiculous. So many people got banned for speedhacking it's unreal. Are bad players still crying wolf?

It is funny to see how people can be manipulated. All you have to do is to claim that cheats and hacks are used more than ever, without presenting a single shred of proof, and people will quit UO over it, or at least complain and predict its doom.

It seems like some people just sit here and wait to have a reason to make a negative posting about this game. Quit already! Good riddance! UO has improved a lot during the past 2 years, and I hope the developers keep going because they are on the right path.

I personally don't say that speedhacks don't exist anymore (I wouldn't be able to prove that either), but I haven't seen a speedhacker in months (and I have seen many of those guys 2 years ago). And I noticed that when you are very deft in running around trees and obstacles (EC helps here), some people are so biased that they immediately call you a speedhacker.

Yesterday I outran a mounted companion. Call me a speedhacker!

Did you really ever believe it was ever going to be anything else but bullspit? Theyve pulled this stunt before ... the devs are all talk and no action when it comes to cheating in UO.

Remember a few years back and the "Trillions removed from the game" and "accounts banned" headlines? They come down hard on a few people as a one off excercise to instill the illusion that they are actually going to do something and then it gets forgotten about again. The bans this time around are the same. A few hundred people maybe and then thats the end we ever hear of it and the cheats run rampant once more...

Maybe you don't know that there is some undetectable files that shows the trees cutten...isn't a speedhack but is a cheat.

And people will laud and give congratz without a single shred of proof about doing anything on 3rd party programs/speed hacker/cheaters.

I make negative comments, not because I sit around with nothing else better to do. In fact, I have made quite a few comments giving praise to EA/Mythic. Hell, even about this very subject.

I agree, the game itself has improved over the past 2 years. And I believe that Mondain's Legacy is the best expansion they have ever put out. But, I don't believe they have done anything about this issue.

I know people that script/speedhack. Talk to them a couple of times a week on ICQ. From what they tell me, they were worried at first about this whole anti-cheat thing. But, they still use their programs, still script/speed hack and still haven't had anything happen to them.

You can still go in certain caves and see the script miners pop through.

First off, I've seen a number of people disappear from the my shard lately. I know that cheaters are being banned. Second, I don't use a speeder of any kind, and in the year since I've come back I've never seen any character move faster than I do unless I was clearly experiencing some kind of lag. Not even once, in a year that included hundreds of hours of pvp'ing.

In that time I've been accused dozens of times of speed hacking myself. So when I read people yelling and screaming about "speed hacking" I take it with a huge grain of salt. In short, I'll believe it when I see it, and I have yet to see it, not even once in the past year. What I do know, without a doubt is that some cheaters have disappeared from my shard, and I for one am happy about that, and feel the devs and gms deserve a pat on the back.

Are all the cheaters gone? I'm just about certain the answer is "no", but there are far fewer of them now than there were two weeks ago.

As for Nu Sair, Lord Chaos, Picus of Napa, and Widow Maker? These guys are known trolls that very rarely have anything positive to say about anything. I suggest you take a look at their posting record before you put any stock in anything that they post.

Sorry that you are still butt hurt from the last verbal spanking you got old boy. You deserved it. You were wrong and needed a little attention getter...looks like it worked. :sad2:

If the devs want to see some TRUE speed hacking, come visit Sonoma between the hours of 8pm - 11pm MST and take a look. If they care to check the GM page logs from the last 2 weeks, they will know exactly who to look for.

This. Llewyn is just a sad little boy.

Funny that he contradicts himself...he has seen cheaters get banned, yet never seen a speedhacker before...so if he's never seen the cheaters before, how can he know they've been banned?

No contradiction whatsoever. I don't think speedhacking is the issue that so many say it is. What's more, those with the real data, I'm pretty certain they agree with me. Speed hacking, if it ever was a real issue, which it probably was, was largely fixed over three years ago now when they capped client speed server side.

Ever since then my guess is that most of the complaining has been pvp'rs looking for an excuse as to why they just got their ass handed to them, or they couldn't get away, or they couldn't catch someone and give them the proper ganking they thought they deserved. My guess is there are still people using speed hacks, but I'm also pretty certain that the most those "speed hacks" are doing is offering is some kind of lag compensation.

I'll say it again. I don't use speed hacks, and in the year since I came back, in hundreds of hours of pvp'ing, in all kinds of contexts, I have yet to see anyone move faster than I do, unless I am lagging, and in the EC it is very easy to tell when you are lagging.

The major problem with cheating in UO isn't speed hacks, it is the use of third party applications, most of them "purpose built" for UO, to script game play - whether it is resource harvesting, repeatable quests, or pvp functions. And it would appear that based on the actions that have been taken recently that the devs largely agree with me.

I've been very consistent in this message, in spite of being trolled mercilessly over it, for a year now. There are no contradictions in what I have posted on this subject, the only contradictions that touch on what I have posted are the imaginary contradictions you have tried to create LC. You are a troll, doing what you typically do with little effect, and that is trolling.

You would think that you would have gotten the message by now that no one with any ability to affect any change is paying attention to what you, or any of the other trolls in this thread, post. If you want that to change, I suggest a few things. First, learn how to recognize the truth, and use that as the basis for your posts. Second, learn the fine art of constructive criticism.

If you want a smart child to do even better at her studies, you don't start by telling her she's an idiot and nothing she does is ever right. You start by paying attention and finding what she does well, and encouraging her, and commending her for those things. Then you find the things that need improvement, and discuss those in a way that is non-confrontational, and non-threatening.

That same basic template for constructive criticism applies to any person or group you wish to see change in ways that are positive. If all you do is insult and tear down you will get nowhere, and eventually no one will pay attention to anything you say. On a forum like this one all you are heading for is a long string of infractions, and eventually a ban if you don't gain a little wisdom...

edit: And for the record, I don't always follow my own advice. So yes, I'm not perfect when it comes to contradictions. I'm not always as "non-confrontational" as I should be. But it seems at times that there are those who don't respond to anything else... :)

Yes, I'm aware that there are still some that haven't been caught either. My guess is that if they keep using those cheats they will eventually be caught, although there will always be those that cheat and get away with it, if only for a time. In the meantime quite a few have been caught and a lot of the asshats on my shard anyway, are gone.

I've heard through the grapevine that quite a few of them got temp bans, so hopefully they will be back shortly and will now be forced to gain some real pvp skill instead of having their computer play the game for them, or be forced to gain their gold and items honestly, depending on the functionality their cheats provided for them.

A friendly little gnome sent me a link and reminded me about this. I find it rather interesting, and somewhat ironic, that someone who claims to "script everything" - his words, not mine - should be putting so much effort into personally attacking me and trying to tell me how wrong I am when I say that scripting, not speed hacking, is the real problem in UO.

"verbal spanking"? That's funny, I don't feel the slightest bit sore... ;)

"I'm aware"..."I heard"..... value = 0

Our bull spit ejecting Dev's coming in and stating "x amount of players were outright banned. x amount of players were given temp bans for illegal play" ...value = 50

Our bull spit ejecting Dev's coming in and stating "Here is a contact method for reporting ingame cheating. All reports will be investigated and action taken where cheating is found"....value 100

I personally value 100% in all aspects.

Wow..did you get those blinders you wear at some horse race track or something? They are working VERY well for you. :sad2:

Your feeble attempt at trying to confuse the issue of avoiding repetitive actions and gaining an unfair advantage in actual PvP game play isn't working so well though. My thoughts on poor game design intended on repetitive inane skill building actions are well documented and I stand behind them 100%. I am one of the majority who doesn't give a tinker's damn if someone mines up 1 billion ingots or trains up every skill in the game in 24 hours. My thoughts on diluting the PvP experience are equally documented and I stand behind them 100%, as well.

For someone who espouses their immense game knowledge at every chance available, you do not seem to have a full grasp on the real situations being raised here. Maybe you could approach subjects that you have some actual experience in. It would save server space and trauma to your e-esteem. :stretcher:

Now..while I have the greatest respect for your opinion on what color sash to wear with what cloak at the latest EM event in Trammel, I would say that it is highly diminished when it comes to pretty much anything else, based on your post history and content.

No personal offense intended..of course. I love you man. :bdh:

Out of curiosity.
EA developers say they put a limit on how fast a character can move.
So from that point there is no speedhacking as no one can be faster than that certain point.

Any use of a third party program just lets you move to that limit.
Might be illegal, but why complain?
If you think people cheat and ea does not do anything, chose a game which does follow up on its rules?

As the old chestnut goes, "Excuses are like ass holes, everyone has one..."

Now..while I have the greatest respect for your opinion on what color sash to wear with what cloak at the latest EM event in Trammel...
And even better when people such as yourself make all kinds of assumptions, based on nothing more than their own completely misguided preconceptions.

I play a tamer, my pets should tell you an awful lot about me. First off, I do my farming for pets in Fel whenever possible, because there is less competition there, and I love the sense of danger. Second I have a cu sidhe and hiryu which should tell you even more about me.

Both my hiryu and cu sidhe are the most common, plain colouring. I've farmed plenty of black cu sidhe, and I love black, I've farmed lots of cu sidhe of every rare colour possible, except for a blaze one, which has eluded me. And some of them even had decent stats. But my favourite cu sidhe, the one I kept, and a pet that I am particularly proud of, is a plain cu sidhe. You know, that ugly off white.

So why do I love this cu sidhe so much, and why did I keep it ahead of all of the "rare" black, white, dark pink and ice blue cu sidhe that I have found? I'll tell you why, and thank you for asking the question. It is the best damned cu sidhe statistically that I have ever seen in game, and I made sure it was fully trained, and it stays fully trained.

That doesn't exactly fit in with your attempt to colour me as someone who cares deeply about "what color sash to wear with what cloak at the latest EM event in Trammel", now does it? In fact, I've attended very few EM events, because I don't really care about all the worthless event items that so many seem to love collecting - and by that I mean worthless to me, if they love them, I'm happy for them and that doesn't make them any worse or better than I am.

And while my hiryu isn't as good statistically as my cu sidhe, it's still damned good, and I've farmed both the poison green colour, and the bright purple coloured ones. I kept this plain old ugly one for a couple of reasons. For one thing someone might confuse it for a lesser hiryu in pvp, which would give me an advantage, and it's the best one statistically that I've found so far, although I'm still looking because I know I can do better... statistically... ;)

And any time you want to look me up and fight out whether I belong in Trammel, or in Felucca, or in both, you can find me. My character's name is Llewen Faerlyght. I'm often on in the late afternoons and early evenings on Catskills. I'm always looking for a fight, and win or lose, I'd be happy to find some action. I always let everyone know when I'm at Yew gate, and if I can't find action there I'll go looking for it in Despise. This of course assumes that your account hasn't been banned yet.

And I don't believe you. Based on my experience, if they were to listen to you they'd go there and find nothing but a bunch of whiners with old computers, or little knowledge on how to configure their new ones and/or other hardware such as routers, properly. Or they'd simply find a bunch of bad losers.

My vote is for the bad losers...
