Something to look at... about lag

Over the last few days on Catskills many are complaining about lag. Then it hit me...
I started to ask the complain partys if they were in which client. Those in CC were getting serious lag and the laging maker were in EC.
The arguments going around was on the speed of the party going by and then a hugh lag spike....
Thats when it hit me in was localized to that one or 2 players closest to the zipping party...
Could the EC cause lag to a player running CC? That might look like that no no program??

Uhm no you do not need that NoNo program to run fast in EC, I get hit with lag pretty much everytime I log on and play and I have a very good Internet connection

I do not see how it could be the EC causing this because I was at an EM Event the other night (I use the CC) on Baja and if this were true then I should have lagged and I did not. What I am woundering is if there are problems that are affecting a few servers on the cloud that are not affecting other servers. When people talk/report these types of problems they need to provide a lot more info than what they do.
  1. Where are they located and date/time.
  2. Does this happen all the time or just certain times of the day.
  3. Client being used and if you switch clients is the problem still there.
  4. Shard they are having problems with and do they have the same problem on other shards.
  5. Other programs that are running.
  6. Total # of programs running.
  7. What priority UO is set at on thier computer.
  8. Trace route.
There are a lot of people saying they are lagging and there are a lot of reasons that could cause this but without all the info it is hard to say. I am on the West coast and as long as I log into West coast servers I have no problem. Logging into East coast or Asian servers during off peak hours are a lot better (little to no lag) then during peak hours (hard to walk around even when nobody is in the area) and I totally expect this because of route and server load during these times.

People saying there is lag with no info is like my wife telling me there is something wrong with the car and I am suppose to figure it out from there (I get this all the time).

You might be right there Frodo
I do remember way way back in UO time there being trouble with some areas of the game that had concentrations of "hot " spots with heavy lag... the GM's of the day did say that the Dev of that era knew of it and would put in a fix... but i dont remember any lag fix... as that dev was soon tossed out on its ear... most of them any way.

It's the same person on Catskills complaining about people lagging them when they run by. It's always the same person and it's always a conspiracy theory and said in general chat to imply that the person running by them is somehow using a cheat to make them lag. It is all fabricated. Please when you see this kind of "banter" in chat on Cats, just ignore it. It's dumb.

Before ignoring a possible EC connection to the lag, a few years ago there REALLY WAS a KR/SA/EC bug where mixed parties (both EC/KR and CC users) resulted in severe lag, especially for the CC users in the party (not so much for the other client's users). It could be something as simple as a recent fix of something else inadvertently breaking the fix for that old bug (not like that's something new with UO), as the bug itself was located in the code where the servers interacted with both clients.
