Something I've always wanted (Macro related)

In the thread concerning creating and saving macros to the numpad, Fink mentioned toggling macros. Which reminded me how I used to make post on the original MyUO forums requesting the ability to switch my macros on and off. This also goes for UOA also, I know some of the original assist programs gave you this option because I would not see random spells and whatnot pop up over someones head when having a conversation. There is nothing in UO that annoys me more than this happening when trying to speak with someone. More so when it causes the words to appear in the corner of the screen.

Also, just to make sure. This has not be added, correct? As I stated in a previous post, that even being back in game 5 or 6 months as not gave me enough time to catch up on everything.

There are keyboards that give this function,

Invest in a g13 or whatever they're called.

While thankfully cash flow is no problem for me, I don't think I should have to invest in a bloody fancy keyboard due to a desire for one feature. I'm not a big time gamer or computer wizard, in fact UO is the only game I've excelled at and have absolutely no need for such a thing aside from the single above stated reason.

I would much rather set the money aside I would waste on it (Which seems to hover between $67 and $80 dollars. Sorta seems like a lot to turn off a button?) and put it towards my family.

Logitech G-11, G15, or G-19 Keyboards are great.

The Logitech G-13 gamepad is also very useful.

While I appreciate the advice, unless it's relatively cheap I just can't justify purchasing it for my uo gaming. Maybe (and only maybe) would I consider it if I was able to play as much as I did from 97 to 2000ish, but now that I have much less time to play due to illness and a wife and kids, it just does not seem wise.

I wouldn't think that such a thing would be complicated to implement in game... Would it? My point in creating this thread was to find out if others also found it disappointing the game lacked this feature and also desired it being added.

The G-19 is outrageously priced at almost $200.00.

The G-13 lists for $79.95 - but I found it on-sale - with a rebate that brought the total down to $29.95. It's been well worth the price!

One thing is having to play with a mouse and keyboard, another is to require fancy hardware which many can't use...for instance the G15 and G19 are wired (and double wired), so useless in a wireless environment. Same goes for most gaming mice, they also aren't wireless.

I much prefer the hardwired ones... Less interference from other nearby wireless keyboards, and no risk of the batteries going at a critical moment. But that is a personal preference and I am sure opinions differ.

I've used the G-13 for well over a year and i can say this .... I'd never go back to being without it. Oh the things I can do now.. and with the EC .... it's awesome

Index finger on the right Alt and the other three fan over a multitude of keys. Just rip out the key right next to the right Alt and many oops are avoided. Thumb on left Alt for those less demanding hotkeys. When all those F row keys get so dusty can't identify them ..... time to clean keyboard or just buy a new one.

All that money spent on the high speed trash frees up funds for beer or another account. In that order of course.

That's another plus of the Logitech G-11, 15, or 19 keyboards. They have a switch that disables that "oops" key.

I've only managed to toggle macros in the Classic Client using the numlock on numpad assignments. It works on my keyboard for zero through nine and decimal point, so there's eleven keys with two assignments each.

It doesn't work for capslock which, I guess, is really where you want it. Shift will differentiate alpha keys, but then that means you're either holding down shift so you can SHOUT without spamming or you're holding down shift for spells which is less than helpful. EC has that talk/macro toggle option, but that's really no help if you prefer CC.

As for the G-series keyboards, I've personally never justified the need vs expense. I guess if you had other games or applications that could benefit from them, go for it. There are MMO type mice that have a trillion buttons on the thumb side (if you're a rightie), but those seem awkward (maybe because I'm a leftie).
