Something I would like to know about Samurai Empire and wrestling (attn:devs)

With the addition of of Samurai Empire and all the "Oriental" themed content that came along with that, why did wrestling (martial arts) get left out? Even with 100 points in anatomy and 100 in tactics,my wrestler is easily out-damaged by a greater mongbat
.

Is it possible to ramp up the base damage to empty hand fighting or add some type of hand wrap or brass knuckles?

For those that will post a reply, saying that if you wear plate armor, that my punches wont hurt. I'll take that bet. IRL lets meet up and you put on any type plate armor on that you want then I'll punch you. After you pick yourself up off the ground try to tell me it didn't hurt

Sure but youd probably break your hand doing it:p

But anywho its not boxing its wrestling, i wouldnt increase base damage id just change it to have better special moves or even more than just 2?

However Wrestling doesn't involve punching, it involves maneuvering into a dominant position while grappling to subdue your opponent. So UO Wrestling really doesn't fit the criteria of "Wrestling". Seeing as how UO "Wrestling" only has punches, and not kicking, it is more akin to Boxing.

Ok. Ill get the doc on standby to repair your broken knuckles. Better yet, just go punch some diamond plate that is strapped on a wooden stand that is about as tall as a human and let me know how you fair. Then we will move to human targets after your hand heals.

I highly doubt plate armor is made for punching. Besides, even ill-fitting leather gloves can bruise your hands - imagine for something not made for punching. It'll still hurt your opponent unless, perhaps, if they kiai correctly, but it'll hurt you too.

In any case, who really wears plate armor anyway? =P

Wrestling, as mentioned before, is not the same as martial arts, although some dojos will teach wrestling alongside martial arts. However, I think wrestling should be renamed to something else because UO wrestling is not wrestling.

To get to the main point, I really would like some kind of balanced form of martial arts in UO. It's a beautiful and deadly art, and it's amazing to watch Shaolin forms. Of course, it's very difficult to learn and master, but if it's implemented in a balance way, I'll be a very happy person.

Sorry I had a flashback to the time when plate was worth wearing. I know its called "wrestling" but the animated graphic shows my character doing an overhanded bolo punch or "Haymaker". I feel that wrestling should be given better base damage, maybe comparable to daggers if handwraps are equiped. To keep things balanced,if my fighter had the handwraps equiped, drinking pots or even spell casting(magery) would not be possible.I guess I am tired of seeing my "wrestler" giving a damage string of 1hp...2hp...1hp...1hp...3hp...2hp with 100 anatomy and 100 tactics along with 120 strength.

Wrestling is basically used for mages who don't want to get hit 100% by dexxers and would like to disarm every once in a while.

I always thought wrestling should have a variety of special moves that would be more realistic to actual wrestling. 4 specials like Pin, Choke, Disarm and Subjugate that are checked against the opponent's wrestling skill, STR, and DEX. If a successful check is made:

- Pin could render the victim unable to attack for a determined time, and lower their taming difficulty by half while they are pinned.
- Choke could make the victim "pass out" for a short time, much like paralysis but preventing all action, including healing, casting and skill use, as well eliminating the victims stamina and halving their mana when they recover.
- Disarm is obvious.
- Subjugate could be used on an active player character, kind of like a real life arm twist. If a successful subjugate check is made, the wrestler can move the victim against their will a specific number of steps, so long as the wrestler goes there with them.

I think it would add a whole new world of options in both PvP and PvM, whereas a player could drop their weapon to wrestle an opponent and gain a slight advantage before rearming to resume battle.

It would also give some allure so sleeper wrestlers, players who are quiet about their wrestling skill. An overaggressive PK disarms a player only to find themselves pinned to the ground or choked out. Much like what would happen in RL if you attacked a skilled wrestler unprovoked.

As of now the skill has a whole gamut of possibilities, yet remains more useless than herding.

How about I skewer you through a lung and watch you drown in your own blood because you were dumb enough to come to a swordfight expecting to get by with empty hands? Punches might "hurt" but the weapons you're comparing them to can, in real life, kill on the first blow.

Leave wrestling how it is. Placating a few karate-****ers isn't worth the work and the balance issues.

Just don't ask for SUMO style wrestling to be added, please, even though they have the diapers & topknot hairstyle already coded.

Heh, given the track record, we'd more likely end up with re-sized ogres sporting diapers & topknots.

if you want to do more damage, use another weapon skill, if you want variety with specials, use another weapon skill...simple

theres nothing wrong with how wrestling is atm, lets not try to fix the simple things that work, and lets fix the things that are bugs/exploits first

ok, so what youre trying to say is that wrestling, which helps to evade being hit, which is defensive and offensive in pvm/pvp, which can stun punch and disarm opponents......that youre trying to say wrestling is as useless as herding, is as ridiculous as saying magery is as useless as herding

think more, post less

Ahem, punches can kill on the first blow. There are such things as death strikes. Some of them are pretty easy to do, too. There are also ways you can trap swords, but I don't know the specifics on that.

I think if you're really good fighting with your bare hands, you can defend yourself at least a little bit, but not that you'll win against an experienced swordsman, macer, or fencer. The main thing I'm concerned about is just any balance issues, but I believe bare hand fighting needs a little more credit.

If there are going to add any type of hand to hand combat, I would love to see them add Pan Kration (sp?). This is the martial arts style used by the spartians and others in the area. This is the original form of wrestling used in the Olympic Games. I would love for you to take a gastration (forward straight leg kick to the chest) while wearing the type of armor that everyone wears in UO today. Check the real story of the 300 for the results of that.

It's very possible to kill someone in one hit using nothing more than your own body, some of them aren't very complicated. Just deleted the explanations, would probably get banned from Stratics for telling people how to kill people in RL in one hit.

But anyways, i think there should be a new Wrestle Special Move, but only for Female chars. Instead of having Para Blow as a Wrest Special, they should have Groin Kick, which if used on a Male char, causes an unbreakable 3 second Stun on the char...lmfao. Chance to resist the Groin Kick would be based on STR and Focus.

Good idea, that would make drinking in the game useful again. I remember we used to get our char's [censored] faced at Brit Smiths with a crapload of booze (Ale, Wine, Liquor, Cider) all over the floor, while smiths made suits and weapons for people. Was fun watching chars *Hiccup* for RL days after we got them completely smashed.

Maybe add a new Category to the Cooking list, Brewing. That way we can make Moonshine, Rotgut, Mead, Grog, etc. And have them add different effects to your char and increase your Intoxication level by a certain amount for each swig. Have there be bonuses/penalties applied to different levels of drunkeness.

You can train ninjitsu/bushido and run around punching people with death strikes and lightning strikes if you want to pretend you're Bruce Lee or some crap. Meanwhile back in the real world, fists are much worse at killing people than swords, so the game has them do way less damage.

thats what im talking about, its about time we started talking about new skills ,and diff possible things. I am all for some martial arts. would there be some balanceing issues of course, but remember this is a fantasy game so why not have wrestling work for every 1. like fists of fire for mages , or razzle dazzel for dexers, or the slice n dice for sworsman. so it would be like wrestling + primary killing ability...or wrestling + what everskill u want to attach it to. or wrestling by itself. but dont forget we need the scottish attack
if we are guna be drinking
