Something I never understood.. re: Origin shard..

I never really got why Origin was added.. I know it's been used in the past as the first production shard to receive publishes, but is this the only reason it was ever created in the first place?

Using a production shard as a publish testing server is kind of a bad idea for obvious reasons, and adding a shard to a game that is likely losing more players than it is gaining will not do much but spread players out even more.

We should get the publishes before production shards to test them however they dont give enough time for any real testing and if nothing blows up in first day its shipped off ready or not

It's like a perma test centre.

They get publishes first a day in advance. With a more stable population compared to TC, hopefully people will spot problems with publishes before the rest of the servers are patched.

Too many past instances where all the servers were patched in a single pass and then the servers crashed or major exploits were discovered and they had to revert.
