I liked the principle of the event.

Suggestions.

1. Death.

Now I know its a touchy subject but I really have to recommend a death penalty. Nothing more silly then death being an annoyance vs a consequence. The players that stay alive and keep their pets alive need a bit of a bonus.

What do I mean? Die in luna, 2 second run rez, die, rez, die, rez.

The new idea. You and your body are sent to a healers hut and you have to stay in bed for 5 minutes. Pets cant be rezzed for 5 minutes.

2. EM Event Drop:Score the players.

Players need to achieve X amount of damage to get a gift. NO NO NO don't start screaming. Something simple. Something low but needs to be achieved. If you get the points. You get a temporary tag or something shows the EM can see.

No point in players not participating then running to the EM to get the handout. A good way to filter out lag would be for the EM to open a gate and only players that did X amount of damage could go. REMEMBER low damage for all you belly achers.

3. Create MONSTER tags that float.

Argh. Targeting is a pain. Can you make it so we can filter out players or during the events the MONSTER NAMES float above everything else when you go to attack.

This is for living monsters and dead monsters. There has to be an easier way to target monsters and find their corpses. The best way is to have monster tages float above other tags. Tame pets have to float below the monsters too.

4. GET RID OF 1 hit monster kills... That is them killing us.

Its a bit silly I can be killed with one hit. Im not complaining, Im shaking my head. 90% hit sure. But If I dont have a chance to react, whats the point. Smarter monsters vs. jacking up the damage they do.

Smarter.
They cast earthquake, EV's, chain lightning, meteor swarm, poison fields VERSUS a strike for 120 points.

These three things would enhance the events.
The goal is a player that stays alive does minimal damage gets a benefit.
The goal is to allow players ease in selecting targets and looting corpses and have a chance to respond to massive damage.

I cant see why anyone would argue. But Im sure Ill read about it.

Like I was on the opposite sided of luna away from the monsters.

That I can fix.
But if the dead are getting booted to a place for 5 minutes it might help.

Well I see a couple of problems with your suggestions:

Bards They may or may not have strong offensive capabilities to gain "points" but their ability to discord is beneficial for all players in the fight. They might not be able to acquire the necessary skill points.

Dexers & Pet meat shields. They stand in there and keep the nasties from targeting the less uber geared (mages/archers). And die more often. But they would be out of the fight for 5 minutes? That would not only hurt them, but everyone in the fight as well.

I do like, however the idea of being able to see monter tags easier. Wish there was a macro for selecting NPC only tags.

Bards would a bit of an issue. But they would get points for provoke.

The dexers adn meat shields I think are a problem in another respect. They are valuable in the sense you describe. But the response of the DEVS (not always but often) is to just jack up the monsters hit points.

So you get what you described. Meat sheilds, dexers, evs, etc. Dwindle and die.

If they were teleported out upon death. The monsters would attack others. I dont think that is a bad thing. Maybe you would need monsters with 50,000 hit points anymore.

Just a thought.

Only a rubbish bard...or PURE bard would have a problem.

todays Bards arent group fighter, they arent discording or peacing for the group they are discording or peacing so there pets can do the most damage or survive.

No modern Bard template cannot dish out damage...NONE!

I personally like all the ideas. Especially the death one, the comment on that negatively affecting the group?

GOOD maybe people will start working as a community again and actually heal each other!?!?

Shocker of a thought i know!!

THATS SO TRUE. I remember I used to buddy up and cross-heal with strangers. I havent done that for years. Now I just ride in with my mage archer cast, shoot, and spell cast from distance.

In my honest opinion the main reason for this is Greaters.

No longer are players vunerable, all they do is throw the GD GD on the mob and stand back, then other players just wade in!

Gone are the days when you actually had something able to kill pets quickly!

I was waiting in hope that they would throw a crimson in the midst and everyones drags would go wild...ill say this too...i had my drag slayer scrapper ready for such an occassion, my mean streak coming through :p

yeah um... not all bards are tamers. most of the spawn monsters were not provoke-able, and on some shards, people do cross heal because we ...well we are just that kind of people.

during the last spawn, some people did not engage the nasties, but worked the healing stations, getting people back to full health, blessing and casting strength on them....under your plan, they wouldn't have earned 1 point toward some "reward" but where incredibly valuable in the invasion.

for people who play just for themselves, the op's ideas might make some sense... but not all shards and not all people play the same way. it is what you make of it, and if its a game that is all about you and you getting your items and being indifferent to others getting their items, then ... well I'm sorry for you.

I dont think the point for me is about getting items, i enjoyed the community spirit of Old UO, thats what i want back...an example of one such comment that got me really riled up is that at the end of the ebvent, when the EM's where working tirelessly to divvy out cloaks and in the RP spirit they mentioned about helping in the next part...to which one person replied...only if im paid!

Sickening!

yeah we have that kind of thing too, but its few and far between.. thankfully. Come play Baja! Where the sand is white, the sun is warm, the ocean blue and the breeze is liberating!

Tamers send in their GD's and then stand back? WOW! If I did that... my pet would die horribly. In Napa... there were so many Shadow Wyrms 3-4 on a single GD... our poor dragons died left and right when the tamer who was vetting under it died. I myself quit doing the Luna invasion for a few days because I had to retrain my pet up.

That whole "send in the dragon" bit is not as easy as you think. And I know of no tamer who does that. NOT saying it doesn't happen... but I myself have not seen it.

Actually if Im not mistaking...

The problem is not that players send in GD to fight. It is that all GD that go into fight damage.

Wait. Take breath.

This posters point is a good one. A few GD's and several Shadow wyrms is a tuff battle.

On atlantic try 10 greater dragons or more on 1 shadow. The problem is..there is no blocking when it comes to 10 GD attacking the monster. Please correct me if I am wrong.

All 10 GD dont block each other out. They all damage the monsters. The stand in the same space on top of each other and fight.

That idea every attacker doesnt get blocked out.. GD, tames, players is probably a flaw.

Well in the events ive been present at on GL, the comment about sending in the GD's and standing back is exactly what happens.

In general there are so many dragons on any 1 target that the enemy does one of 2 things.

A) dies so quickly that the tamer need not worry.

B)has a long drawn out death only targetting one pet, very occasionally switchin after an area affect spell.

It was increadibly boring to watch! Even worse to be a mage in the midst! There was no strategy, no thought, no teamwork...just wait for a drag and then go some.

I truly cannot wait for the day when these drags are taken to an event only for them all to perma die!
