Some are seeing the shard list, some are not, what's the deal?

I get stuck on Connecting as well, so it's not just you unfortunately. Hopefully things will be working soon!

Seems like most shards are back up, was just able to log onto Atlantic but my home shard (Napa) is still down
Ya...I am just trying to connect...O well. I guess go take a shower and try again in 15.
Did they change IP addresses and we're all waiting on the various DNS servers to update? Also is it a Classic/Enhanced client thing? Which client are you guys able to connect with?

I am getting the same error. On my login page, on the bottom of the page is the UO Version 7.0.29.2 (patch unknown)...... But should say (patch 80). Is anyone else getting this patch error? My wife can connect and she is using XP, is there anyone else with this problem on Win7?

Same prob on Sonoma , we have guildies in vent who are in game , rest o us get stuck at connecting and time out...

I can't connect, either. What's the deal? Can I get a 1-day refund for not being able to play at all? My husband can log in on his computer. He uses Windows XP where I use Windows 7. Is this the problem? This is ridiculous!

I think the best part is how we are getting no information from the dev's about this. For all we know they went home for the night and will try again in the morning.
Apparently the problem is similar to one people had before, and I performed the same fix but with a different IP address:

People are randomly gaining access but this worked for me. Add this line instead of the one in that thread:
107.23.85.115 login.ultimaonline.com

This worked for me as well. Thanks for posting. Welcome to service based America. What do you do when the service sucks? Well someone will figure it out sooner or later.
Personally I am not comfortable messing with my hosts file for this stuff, and think this is the kind of thing someone from the team likely should address.

this... they changed the IPs for the login servers and it could take a while to propagate. Looks like the login servers have been moved to AWS N. Virginia (US East Coast) as well...
I was having a problem too until I rebooted my computer. After that I got right in. So maybe try that first. I don't know if it was a fluke or not.

yes add it on the bottom - just as it is, don't have the # in front like all the other lines in that file - they're 'comments' and don't do anything.
Don't let windows turn it into a .txt file either.

what happens if its text file, how do you change it back and what type of file was it suppose to be to begin with system file or just file?

just 'file' there's no extension at all.
Probably the easiest way to do this is copy the file to 'my documents', edit it there, then move it back to the proper folder.
I actually renamed my original file 'hosts_' so when I know it's fixed I can delete my edited copy and change the name back on the original.

hmm, I have admin access, so maybe it won't allow you to rename the file, but you should be able to copy it to my documents, edit it, then move it back.

I have the edited file on my desktop, what is the next step? where and how do I send it to where it needs to go??
open the folder you got the file from in the first place and drop it back into it. (windows/system32/drivers/etc )
What kind of crap is it that some of us seem to have to edit a file while others do not
I DEMAND an answer from a Dev as a loyal paying customer!!!
Hell I've even tried the above user fix with no joy, I'm not paid to edit code, that's not my job. I am extremely pissed off this morn as you can tell. God I can't wait until November.
ok got it to run. but I still am anoyed that I needed to edit code to make a game I pay for play
