They're the currency used to buy items in the official in-game store.
Some of the previous codes and other things that you could buy through the Origin website are no longer there and now need to be purchased through the store.

Just go to origin.com and search for ultima online.
Also after you purchase them go to the account management page and hit the activate key button , enter the code and confirm and they are applied. Each account under that master account can use them in the ingame store. In game hit HELP and then the store button. and it should open the ingame store console.. You do have to be in a safe logout location like a inn or your house. If it won't let one character open the store just use a different character until one works. Sorry for adding all of this but I explain this a lot in game because people try and enter the sov codes in game and not on the acct management page 
or open the client and before clicking play click UO Store and it takes you right there
If you use Ultima Online you do not get every thing.
Use ultima in the search window and wait for the list to appear and at the bottom of the list pick Ultima Franchise and you get everything they have for Ultima.
