Those of us who were on long hiatus from the game, and/or are new (as some of my guildmembers are) are basically left wondering about this:

Should we basically er, bite the bullet, and buy soulstones?

I'm not advocating item purchasing online, or soliciting a site, or anything like that. I'm just asking bluntly, it is VERY Plain that many, if not most players, plan their game around soulstone use. I mean I ask for advice about a build and people (just assuming it is a must-have and everyone has one) is like "oh well, no, don't set your x skill to go down, just stone it and transfer it if you decide to change and do y in the future."

I mean, it seems I guess... like a lot of guides, guilds, experienced players, templates, and cominbations of character slot use (efficiently) basically assume you have one. Or several.

Should new/returning players just bite the bullet and get one? Buying game gear online is distasteful to me but it seems like an item virtually too useful to have versatile templates in the game without.

You can now get a soulstone as a 1st year reward. It is bound to the account that claimed the reward. As much as UO likes to nerf things, the template you have today might not be that good 6 months from now, so it is always better to soulstone the skill off for future use. That is unless its gm focus or med. Then your probably safe to just mark those down.

You can buy a legacy token from UO and one of the items you can choose is a soulstone, or wait until SA is about to be released and see if they have any rewards for buying the box.

I have a 27 month old account... and I don't remember ever redeeming my rewards.. is there a way to force a check for this? Or a place to call (to EA?) and find out?

I would also really really like to get a soulstone...

when you log in the option should auto come up unless you are using uoassist in which case you need to make sure the option "cancel vet rewards" is NOT checked

For a recently returned or new player... a year is kind of a long time to wait for something that's become almost to the level of a basic tool people use for building their character.

I guess it's either wait, or fork real life money for it. Don't really like the idea of buying gear online but hate the idea of planning templates I'll be able to play around with... a year from now, when I have a legit in-game soulstone.

you can also buy soulstone fragment tokens on player vendors, they sell for between 500k and 1m though, which is a lot of gold for a new player... but the fragments do the same thing as the soulstones except you can only retreive a skill off them 5 times then they're useless. also (you probably know this), don't ever buy an actual soulstone or soulstone fragments off vendors - those are account bound and will be unusable to you. only buy actual tokens, which you yourself will redeem.

and you don't need soulstones or frags, they're just nice to have if you feel like trying out different skills but don't want to lose the skills you've already worked really hard to raise.
