SO tired of the Recall Crash bug...

Any idea on whether its being addressed? This is one that really gets me. You head to a dungeon to fight, and crash upon recall only to wake up dead when you restart the client

It's not a bug, it's a feature!!! Not quite as bad as the ctrl+shift crash bug.

Most of my happen recalling to banks out of dungeons [thank you God], I have crashed recalling to a dungeon a few times. As to what to put in a bug report? I opened the book, go to the page I wanted, clicked on recall, crashed. Rebooted to fine myself at the bank/dungeon. If I am lucky I am alive.

Wouldnt it be better if the devs actually played UO, god knows this bug happens enough that they cant help but see it for themselves.

Have to wonder why our devs talk more about the times they play WOW than mentioning UO

not only are ppl crashing upon recalling
several friends have told me about crashing upon entering gates, entering dungeons, in fact it seems any entry or exit from anyplace in uo, such as a gate or an opening leading across server lines, has a chance to crash your client since publish 51
its happened to me like 2 dozen times
and its very old now

fix it pls!

it happens randomly, all the time. I can't go through one night of playing without it happening at least once or twice. I have noticed that it happens mainly when I'm recalling from an auction (where there are a lot of players) to my house, or from peerless areas to another location. The same thing happens when I travel through a gate. In fact it's happened twice when I entered the rift in moonglow, which aided to my death.

It happens to me all the time but only on one of my characters and it's my mule. I have died going to vendors and crashing.

It happens to me too especially when I recall to my house. No spell effects usually. Not overweight. I'm usually in Luna bank recalling home. In 2D and in KR. I wish I knew the coordinates of my house. I'm at work.

I crash alot going into moongates 4 or 5 times at the event gate not close to over weight nothing unusual i can think of unless being cursed with evil omen that refuses to go away also the freaking stat loss every time you gate,recal or cross server lines is a real pain

The only thing that matters in regards to this ENTIRE bug is that anyone around you who is dragging ANY OBJECT when you recall, step through a gate, or even go thru a teleporter will cause you to client crash. Sorry for posting this bug to the forums but FIX IT ALREADY! I sent three bug reports in on this...over a period of the last two monthes. *sighs*

so to recap for bug ppl...

Person A tries to recall, gate out, or use a teleporter in any place throughtout the gameworld. Person B is moving items of any kind while person A is recalling, gating, or going through a teleporter. Person A client crashes as a direct result of person B dragging items.

I have the same problems at my job. If I can't make it happen, I can't see the contributing factors for myself, and that makes troubleshooting *very* difficult, if not impossible altogether.

I have only experienced this recall/gate bug maybe once or twice personally. I am running the 2D Client, with no other programs open at the time on Windows Xp Professional.

This bug cannot be reproduced. It happens randomly. It also happenes when you enter a moongate or a dungeon. It only happenes when your character gets to a different server, so it seems. I also think that it happenes only after a certain time of gameplay. It never happened to me with a freshly started client. Maybe the client has some memory leak which causes the crash after having crossed server boundaries too often.

[/ QUOTE ]None of these questions have any effect on it. All dungeons, All gates, All locations, All runes, All weights, etc etc, period. Would you like to know WHEN it was broke? The publish last year the did away with the 3D client and prepared the world for KR. Something in that publish directly caused this particular crash bug. Perhaps they should go scour that publish ....

To be honest, I don't think it's a recall bug. This is the 2d client right? I think the issue has something to do with sound. I've crashed on various sounds like recalling, lich laughs, and entering gates. When it crashed, did the recall sound affect repeat a few times? That's what always seems to happen to me when I get what seems to be a sound crash. Had one happen today just after entering the rift moongate. :p Most inopportune time to crash.

Oh yeah, and one other note on sound issues. When I'm training spellweaving by casting reaper form, after some time casting this repeatedly, I get a virtual memory warning from windows.

If any of you would bother to read my post, I tell specifically how the bug occurs. It isnt random, it can be easily reproduced, and it is a gamestopper (quite literally!)

I've crashed when recalling from my home to a dungeon. There was nobody nearby and it wound up crashing. I've crashed when a lich laughs. I've crashed when entering a moongate in Ilshenar, again with nobody around. So how exactly does this apply to my client crashes?

No, there was nobody around for the number of times the client has crashed. There have been incidents of crashes where it would be incredibly unbelievable for anyone to have been in my area hidden dragging anything. So no, it doesn't apply to my crashes.

It happens to me at LEAST once a night and usually more


And the recall crash usually happens when I've recalled to some nasty place too.

It's not a sound issue.
It will happen to you at some point.
Often it happens at certain banks but I avoid those banks.

This bug hits its full effect if you recall between two identical points several times say 10+. It is not specfic to any one location. I have had it happen when I was moving from one house to another ferrying my stuffs. Also It happens when I recall in and out of the orc caves moving loot from the orc brutes.

Jeremy, here is some additional information for you concerning the bug. I did send in Feedback, but in case you don't see it, here are my observations.

1. It happens with Recall, Sacred Journey, or even using Moongates.

2. It happens at almost any time. But I notice it more when going from Zento, where I bank to Felucca, where I hunt/live.

3. It happens to me, 2-3 times a day, and some days even more so.

4. It tends to happen more when there are more people on the servers.

5. Today it happened going through the Rift Gate from good side of glow, to the evil side. Went through gate and died.

6. I will say that it happens MORE when you are recalling to an area where a lot of objects have to be redrawn. Such as the most common place for it to happen to me is when I recall to my keep in felucca. I have a keep with the 40% storage upgrade. And I am running low of free spaces in the keep.

7. It appears to crash the client because of the memory buffer changing so quickly when going from one server to another.

I am running a Pentium 4 CPU, 3.08 Ghz Processor, Hyperthreading enabled, 1 gig ram, 4 HDD's running in RAID, with a Radeon 9550 256 mb video card. My OS is windows XP, with all patches applied.

If you want to recreate this. Simply Recall from Zento on Atlantic to my keep. Ill provide a rune if you need it. You can go back and forth until it happens, but it will happen. I don't think it is hardware specific issue, but client issue. Here is the Event Log results from three such crashes tonight. This should show you how frustrating this is, tonight it happened three times. Thanks

If what you're saying is true (and I don't doubt it is, I'm just not being paid to test it myself, and thus will not), then there is more than one recall-crash bug, or at least more than one cause pointing to the same bit of code.

My crash bug was always when I recall or gate to a place and something attacks me before the screen (graphics, sounds, whatever) loads. It didn't matter if anything was at the source or destination.

And I've only seen the problem on my laptop, not my desktop.

Just got it now. I think I was bandaging myself at the time.

It happens to me about 40% of the time when I (recall) get newly rezzed, probably still cursed, and am recalling into the front of Fire dungeon fel. Best bug report I can give ya.

In addition, it is not sound related, because I tend to run with sound off. If i did run with sound on, I have the Sound Blaster Live

I kinda agree with the crash being caused by people dragging things...
When Dev and I are done fishing, she usually sorts stuff while I tote it off, I can SJ off the ship (anywhere in the seas, not one particular spot) home and client crashes. Has done it to me as many as 5 times in a row. If I am fishing solo, and SJ home, not a problem.
Perhaps draggin items at destination is also a problem, Have crashed a few times on different chars going thru the portal into bad Glow =)

Is there a tool I can run such that when it happens to me, I can capture the data they would want to see and send it to them?

I get what subjectively seems like that same client crash after gating, after recalling, and just out of nowhere right after a sound plays. It does seem like it's always directly after some sound goes off, you never get it at a quiet moment and the timing is always the same. Just a split second after the sound, the thing messes up, and you may hear the sound or some part of the sound repeating.

It could be unrelated to sound but, subjectively anyway, it seems tied to it!

A phrase heard several times each day in Vent: "I cliented".

(2d client, naturally).

I can't tell EA how to duplicate it except to say, get someone who is really active in the game, say Felucca-type active, and just watch, or something. It'll happen, you can't miss it.

Clienting SUCKS! heh.

Well, I can say that I don't believe that someone dragging things is the root cause, as often times, there is nobody around when I recall from the bank to the keep.

I will say last night both my husband and daughter crashed going into the Blighted Grove right as I was moving something in my backpack, so this does seem a feasable explanation for at least a portion of these recall crashes, if not all of them. I also know without a doubt that the crashing started directly after the publish that shut down the 3D client.

Another common crash that is frequently heard in vent of Fel players is the "I was using Ctrl+Shift and someone died in the area, thus I crashed". Totally reproduceble.

Wednesday night (4-3-08) I crashed while entering the gate that takes you to Dark Moonglow. Luckily, when I booted up, I was still alive.

Dont let anyone fool you about this matter in QA. I have sent in three bug reports on this within the last three monthes (VERY detailed). Yes we have no bananas?

I also have started crashing upon recalling or gating. I am not over weight and am under no spells. I crash at radom when recalling from a town to my house. Or from one house to another. Gating off my boat to my house I crash almost every time. But the recall one is very random but has got my killed several times. It is starting to get very very annoying. If you need a bug report where do I file that? I have even remarked the runes and changed to new rune books doesnt help. And if i dont crash then when i try to recall it goes off but i go no where or it takes 5 mintues to go thru. but yet i can still run around and talk where i cast the spell so it isnt my computer.

Tested this last night in the star room by dragging and holding a spellbook next to the pop in point from terra. almost everyone coming in crashed and we killed them quickly. was great fun, thanx

What about the bug that UO locks up and not only locks UO up ,but your whole computer and you must yank the plug out of the wall to reboot. This only happens while playing UO
I also have the recall /moongate crash as well and they might be linked.

you may be suffering from a system conflict. with some video cards teh memory leak can be so bad that your whole system can indeed freeze. one thing you can do to avoid or minimize such a problem is to use the -reducecpu function of UOA. if you do not use UOA you can also minimize your UO when you experience system lag. in either case, these two fixes should keep your unit from crashing...and hopefully will end your issues with lag.

i have not submitted a bug report on this cause i am so used to crashing i don't think of it as a bug anymore.. but... the following may or may not be related to the crashes.

My home is in a remote area between trinsic gate and the mountains. I have another in Zento. It is seldom that i make the trip from one to the other without crashing. It seems as though I also crash leaving Luna bank for either home. This could be related to moving things either in or out of my bankbox or using a trade window.

Also.. and this one bugs me a lot! I often cannot cast either recall or sacred journey with my runebooks open. so i either carry runes loose in my backpack, or set the default and cast on the closed runebook. Again, i am often moving items in/and out of containers into my backpack.

I use 2d client and UOA.

I often crash recalling from the bank in Luna to my house near Yew on Atlantic. I'm using a UO Assist macro to cast recall and target a rune book in my pack with the default rune set to my my house. This didn't used to happen. It's fairly new. It might be interesting to find out whether people are experiencing this without UOA.

It happens more times than not when I am on a char with jewelry that modifies 5 things on each. Doesn't happen every time but enough that I worry about where I'm recalling/gating/portaling to.
