I think we are in for a much longer wait. There are lots of comments from Draconi like "we can add this and that" and these comments are recent. If they can add alot of content now thats an indicator they are alot further behind then they will tell us.

It wouldn't surprise me if we didnt get a Box expansion until mid 2010 or a "Cop out" partial download expansion fall of 2009.

i'd still rather wait an extra year or more for a decent release than get an early crappy release. i would imagine they got enough fallout from releasing KR too early that they're going to be more careful with SA. 2 flops in a row = not so good. learning from your mistakes = good.

I think we should be able to judge how close they are by the rate they are advancing the story arcs. We're still in the "Warriors of Destiny" arc (with a couple of chapters left if I remember Draconi's comments now then correctly). Although I had originally assumed the "Warriors of Destiny" arc itself was the buildup to SA being opened, there have been comments recently about a whole seperate arc building up to SA being opened. So my read (right or wrong) is that we're still a fair ways away.

I am not and I would strongly prefer that they release in a finished state.

Hopefully they delay the expansion until it's ready, delay the client until it's ready, and don't hold one up because of the other.

Keep waiting. We don't want them to pull a repeat of KR, and release an unfinished and buggy game. I'm sure they don't want that as well...they've already lost many subscribers in the last year.
