How many heavy cannon balls do it take to disable a pirate ship?

Thank you, that was exactly I am looking for. I wasted 60+ heavy cannon balls on 1 pirate ship, which at the end does not show any sign of damage.

I just heavy grape shot, takes about 20 - 25
Plus it helps kills the orcs onboard..

Isn't it 20 to completely disable a pirate ship? I would guess if you can't get it to first damage state after 10, then give up.
