So how do I get HCI onto armor?

Saw a piece of armor on Atlantic. Woodland arms, crafted, reforged, with 10% HCI on them. Saw them and thought "You can DO that? This solves all my problems! Off to Test Center to figure this crap out!"

Even with infinite resources I have no bloody idea how HCI ends up on crafted armor. Anyone know? Is it some sort of prepatch thing that can't be done now?

craft woodland armor, reforge using runic carpentry tool (of slaughter), enhance with heartwood and hope for hci

^^ this

A lot of the good PvP dexter suits are made this way. Its expencive you fail many many time but worth it in the long run

As MissEcho says above, you make with plain wood, reforge it (I'm not sure what runic tool you would need for the 5% HCI) then imbue any other mods you want. Then comes the tricky part. Ideally (infact I would say ALWAYS) use the forged metal of artifact tool to guarantee 100% success with the enhance. Choose heartwood and enhance the armour part. With heartwood it can add random mods so its down to the RNG here. If you get the 5 HCI from the enhance it then stacks with the reforge and will give you a lovely 10%.

With reforging HCI is no longer limited to just woodland armor so keep that in mind. However "stacking" hci is limited to woodland.

You will fail a lot. A. LOT. But in the end it's worth it. Err... if you have the bankroll.

I've never made the 10% heartwood but I did make a samp suit with the old 5% and never used a forged tool, took alot of tries and alot of resources. PoF was the big issue and cost IMO. Time to craft the specific resist before imbue/enhance was also annoying but the end suit was perfect.

The "of slaughter" thing isn't selectable when reforging armor on TC. Do you just reforge randomly a lot and hope for the best?

When I make pieces with 10 HCI I go in this order:

1. Craft normal woodland piece
2. Reforge with oak runic for 5 HCI
3. Enhance with heartwood (no enhance tool)

Repeat steps 1-3 until I have a piece with 10 HCI. Then POF to 255/255 and imbue.

This does not make the most powerful pieces possible but it conserves materials and gold cost while still getting some sweet 10 HCI pieces. You could get more powerful pieces by applying POF after step 2, imbuing resists, and then enhancing with heartwood. Save the 10 HCI ones and then finish imbuing. You can make awesome pieces this way but you will spend a lot of money on POF.

Thanks everyone!

Actually I'm interested in getting HCI on metal, the woodland arms were just the example I saw on Atlantic. Nevertheless the logic holds true and it turns out I can get 5% HCI on armor by burning up dull copper hammers, meaning this will be way cheaper than I expected. So let me see if I have this correct.

1) Craft a piece from plain iron.

2) Mentally add 4/0/3/3/3 to the resists to see if it will meet my resist needs when enhanced with Valorite.

3) Reforge using a dull copper hammer and attempt to gain 5 HCI and nothing else.

4) Powder of Fortifying to max durability.

5) Imbue with additional desired properties.

6) Enhance with Valorite using Forged Metal of Artifacts so I don't break it.

Is that the right sequence? I can never get more than 5 HCI on metal, right?

Afaik, only heartwood gives hci bonus, so for metal your stuck with 5.

Yes, this method will work. Check the "Reforging how to" thread in the craftsman forum. I cannot remember the intensity required for 5 HCI, but you may be better off with Shadow runic hammers so you don't get any 4 HCI pieces and waste charges.

Can make even better pieces by doing all of your imbuing, not just resists, before you enhance. But alas you better have deep pockets because that will get EXPENSIVE!

I'm pretty sure you have to go with shadow runic hammer to get 5HCI and no negative properties.

Remember if you are enhancing with valorite it adds 50% durability to the item. POF to 175 and then enhance with valorite.

Unfortunately not. I was really hoping that with the forthcoming armour revamp they might add more properties to materials once they are enhanced.
