I have played uo for 5 yrs.I have recieved 3 val bods.I have even resorted to buying ingots and turning in all the crap bods. The profession is shot.I can make more money doing anything else. When will uo fix this. The best hammer I have recieved is a aggy and that was with buying bods from a vendor.Thinking it would take 50 yrs if not more to get a val hammer. Is smithing worth it?

?? I've been playing for 10 years, have yet to get even a gold hammer. I'm not playing to "win", but just to play. I can make fairly good money if I want, but I'm not particularly after anything these days. I just managed to turn in enough bods to get my title back, so I'm pleased.

Sorry it sucks for you, but the game is what YOU make of it.

Well, I have turned in many bods in past couple weeks and probably have made between 10-16mil by selling PoF, I haven't made more then that in that period by doing anything else. I'm not in a guild or anything, so no spawns for me, no doom arties. Call it what you want, I have no complaints (except for the lack of supply of iron ingots to feed my addiction)

Is smithing all about a val runic? Maybe to some but I played long before runics and I will probably never get a val runic but I am ok with that. Not everyone will do everything in this game. I have resigned to the fact that I won't and it doesn't bother me.

It is frustrating, because getting an upper level runic hammer is insanely difficult.

I also couldn't sell a piece of armor my smith made to a sensible fighter much of anywhere.

It's not impossible to make a living doing it, though. Long as you either have a miner or access to colored ingots. I've been on a really long run of bad luck, so my powder of fortification yielding bods have been going to someone else lately. When I do get one, I sell them to guildmates for 80k. I hear others sell them for more.

My tailor makes more gold over the long run, but my blacksmith/miner still does all right. With the invasion coming up, you might consider taking your low level runic hammers and filling bods with them, setting aside the demon slayer or two to sell. (I've burnt through four hammers in the past few days, and gotten none, but again, I'm on a run of bad luck.)

Lilac,
Have you stopped to consider that it isn't a run of bad luck? Maybe you are just unlucky. Period.

Just like me!

I'be burned throuigh an easy dozen hammers and not one single demon slayer.

I'm still having fun, so I'll keep going on!

lol.. it's entirely possible!

I swear, since the looming invasion has been pending, I've burned through at least five hammers of various sorts, and found absolutely NO demon slayers.

Got one arachnid slayer I'm keeping for now, though.

My luck has ever been two days late, and half an hour early when it leaves.

Lilac, back during the orc invasion, I promised a guildmate I'd make them an ORC slayer. After all, I would usually get about one every 1-2 DC hammers.

I went through SIX DC hammers - no orc slayer, but I did get a reptile slayer. Grabbed a shadow hammer - No orc slayer. Grabbed my last six DC hammers - through 5 of them, no orc slayer, but got an elemental slayer.

I actually got a REPOND slayer on the 13th hammer, TWO SWINGS before the first orc slayer (of the lesser slayer type) popped out. I ended up giving all 4 weapons to the guildmate, as hunts for Ancient Wyrms and for Blood Elementals (in Ilshenar, looking for the relatively new paragons) were a common guild activity at the time.

That was one freaky string of random numbers....

*still chuckling*

I think you and I can file that under the "Oh, that just isn't right, dammit!" ode to the RNG.

If I can keep myself away from fighting the invasion, I am going to have my smith burn though a small heap of shadow hammers. Bet if there was a snow elemental invasion going on, I could keep them at bay.... or maybe not!

well let's see, I got a snow elemental slayer, a blood, and an orc.

I can kill bloodied orcs in the snow, YAY!!

Well if you think you have been unlucky ,think again.

I have made a post off me trying to make all superslayer warforks using almost only bronze hammers, the others was gold or agapite.

I have used 120 bronze hammers but still havent got a reptile superslayer.

I have only got 2 or 3 demon slayers.

If we are ever invaded by snakes I've got us all covered, nothing but snake slayers.

Smith bods are stupid difficult compared to tailor. and the yield of a top runic hammer can nowhere near justify the price. I've burned 6 val hammers and the items yielded cant even begin to cover what the hammers themselves are worth.

I turn in and claim bod after bod and the good ones are so retardedly far apart there is almost no hope to complete a set. especially with the little amount of players to trade with.

6 Val Hammers????
Setnaffa is this possible?

I know Setnaffa manages a whole lot more bods than I do. To date I've recorded 14520 GM or Legendary bod receipts. (My smith was GM when I started writing down my bod pulls, she managed Legendary somewhere in the midst of them.)

I have never gotten a valorite hammer, nor do I even have the bods to trade amongst other folks for one. Zero. Not one. Haven't gotten a verite hammer either. Got one agapite that is stashed safely away.

So to hear that someone actually had that many valorite hammers and used them rather than selling them? Let's just say I'm curious.

Thanks Lilac. I thought I was missing something. I had to re-read his post 5 times to make sure I actually saw "Val" in there.

Reading this makes me want to stop crafting.

My smith is at 108. I am new to the game. Why spend time on a "roleplay" only character. Weeks of trying for a weapon that you can just hunt for and buy off vendors. NO Thx.

It may not seem broke to you all, but if you didnt have your ingot addiction what would be the draw to smithing?

New player, with 2nd thoughts.

The question is... what would you do if you got a Val hammer?

Burn it off?
Sell it for big money and start all over again?
Just stare at it thinking "OMG I WON UO!!!"

Yes, they are super rare, but they are meant to be.
