Smelting

I discovered I can smelt copper ore, and turn it into copper bars. That's great.

But I'm also finding tin ore now, and I can't do anything with that except sell it as is.

What do I need to do to gain this next ability? I'm not sure if it's a profession or what it comes under.

Keep smelting & mining your copper & tin to get your mining up high enough.
Once you can smelt tin you can then turn it into bronze bars.

One Copper + One Tin bar = One Bronze bar!

There are a couple of dead spots where gaining in Mining can only be done by actually mining, however most of the time you can get gains by smelting as well.

Here is the link that I commonly look at for more details on Mining Thottbot Skills Page

Hope this helps some too.

Ok so I've 'learnt' the necessary information for tin, bronze and silver ... yet for some reason am not able to actually make them even though I have tin and copper ore in my inventory.

Am I missing something else?

That does sound really wierd. If you have learned to skill of smelting those 3, they should each be listed top to bottom in your smelting menu.

The only I can think of, is a reset might be needed? Reboot game and then peek at the menu choices for Smelting. Of those three, Silver for you would be the hardest to smelt so it should be at the top of your list now?

I am assuming your mining skill is at/near/around 125-130 ish.

118 I think. Or thereabouts anyway.

I naturally assumed that, once you were able to learn the particular skill you should be able to use it immediately?

Correction: One Copper bar + One Tin bar = TWO Bronze bars.

You need to smelt the copper and tin ore into bars then you can smelt them together into bronze bars.

There may be some exceptions to this rule.....example:

To make Steel bars, you will need Iron bar + Coal. The coal isn't changed from it's normal state, just use as is with the Iron bar.
