Being bored at work and thinking about playing UO, I started reminiscing on the old days and remembered when young players recieved "a young player ticket" in their backpacks.
For those of you who haven't been playing UO a long time, every "young' player received one of these tickets, and when double clicked, gave you the choice of an item such as a set of dyes and a dye tub, a spyglass, a spellbook with all 1-4 circles in it, etc.
i figured that with today's tough learning curve of UO, a starting player should be given a new player ticket that actually helps them get started.
My idea: give every new (young) character a new player ticket to help them in the profession of their choice.
Double click the ticket and you get a gump offering you several choices. Just a couple quick examples:
Swordsman
- Normal Katana with 255 durability
- Full set of armor (leather, chainmail, doesn't matter) w/ resists comperable to what you purchase at NPC shops.
Mage
- 1 thru 6 circle spellbook
- 500 each reagent
Alchemist
- 500 Each reagent
- 50 bottles
- empty potion keg
- 150 use mortar & pestle
Tinkerer
- 500 Boards
- 500 Iron Ingots
- 150 use Tinkers Tools
Scribe
- 500 Blank Scrolls
- 200 each Reagent
- Blank 10 max charge runebook
Blacksmith
- 1000 Iron Ingots
- 150 use smith's hammer
These are just examples, but they are designed to help a new player get their feet off the ground. And notice that there's nothing overpowering about any of these choices. Most Vets can get these items or resources in 15 minutes.
Like I said, I'm bored. So what does everyone think/ Think this would help new players?
