Slime acid to weapons

Is there some kind trick/prevention of acid damage to melee weapons when doing rats spawn? those slimes eat through axes in no time. Killing rats only takes longer and with whirlwind still get those slimes on the kill list. Thank you

You need to have spell channeling on your weapon...not sure why that counteracts acid but it does.

because back in the day before imbuing and powder of fortification, when all mages were using the swords of prosperity so they wouldn't have to have wrestling, enough of them cried that their weapons were being destroyed and there was no way to replace them, so they implemented that change...

I'll be honest, I didn't know this, I just use a throw away Double axe for the first/second phase. Elemental damage and slayer property is irrelevant at that point. Just switch to your 'good' weapon afterwards.
