Skills through items?

Shopping this morning in Luna, I picked up a Heritage token (thought it was the Other kind) and noticed the Ferret tali.
+10 stealing... and +20 on Shadowdancer legs.. and +30 via ring and bracelet..
That is GM stealing for only 40 skill points!

What other skills can be simulated this way? And more specifically, what skills can be actually Replaced this way? (i.e. used to full effect rather than just Some uses of the skill being effected)

Pretty much anything that you would use to kill something else in some way. I used to have a link that showed them all, but I lost it.

Well, stealing doesn't really benefit much this way, as much of the the things the PvP thieves would steal are now insurable, and the stuff in Doom requires GM real skill to steal (one can use GM Skill through equipment in the Dojo for the Oriental stealables, though)

One can use Jewlery, the Minstrel talisman from the library, the singing axe and the Song Woven mantle craftable to give a carpenter all the music skill to make instruments while having 0 real skill (for an elf - a human can't wear the mantle, and would need 5 real skill).

Similarly, a person could get to 50 magery using the Crystalline ring, jewelry and the Tome of Lost Knowledge, for crafting some of the magery-requiring items (though the ring probably would only be in the possession of the carpenter when the player's mage wasn't using it)

The most obscene use of equipment in place of skill is the Sampire, where they pile on 50-70 skill in necro from equipment to cast the Vampiric Embrace spell, then switch to their combat suit.

I knew you could substitute worn Music skill for making Instruments, but I didn't realize.. #1 - it worked for Magery making circles and abitoirs #2 - it no longer takes 100 magery anyway! :)

My crafter can now stop going to Therapy and finally take up bowcrafting.

I didn't realize stealing required Real skill in places tho.. so my NinThief is now under more strain. Maybe he doesn't actually need lockpicking? hmmmmm.....

And the tamer, with the birds of brit talisman (+5 taming/lore) and +15 ring and bracelet, you have 120 taming at the cost of an advanced character token (85 real skill).

Hours every day taming bulls and hearts - when I could find any that weren't tamed and abandoned... And now all it takes is to buy the game, punch in the code from the box and be at 85 skill without ever having tamed a thing.

Sad, but I guess they felt it was the right direction to take the game. I know a lot of tamers were unhappy about it. I was.
But then I guess no change they can make won't upset someone. Cartography base skills on drawn maps - scrolls mappable - chest loots changed (3? 4? times now).
Entice removed. Provocation becoming difficulty based.
Heck even taking away the need for house keys. Some are angry no matter what changes. :p

Did this recently change? I was just using my thief-in-training characters just a few weeks ago in Doom and he was stealing things with no trouble. Only had something like 58 real skill on him, the rest to 120 was from items he was wearing.

I believe that in general there is no jewelry or other items that will boost the skills for which there are no power scrolls (alchemy, arms lore, begging, bowcraft, camping, carpentry, cartography, cooking, detect hidden, fishing, forensic evaluation, herding, hiding, inscription, item identification, lockpicking, lumberjacking, mining, poisoning, remove trap, snooping, taste identification, tinkering, and tracking). The only exceptions I can think of are a special axe with +5 lumberjacking and mining gloves with +5 mining. Talismans for the crafting skills are also helpful but don't really "raise" your skill. Also, there are a few skills that are only effective based on their real value (e.g., you can't see ghosts or speak as a ghost with less than 100 real Spirit Speak skill).
