[Magery] Skilling with Mage Weapons

Just wondering how this works. Does your chance to gain skill depend on your real magery or your modified magery? Can you gain magery skill off of attacking with Mage Weapons?

I know this is in the FAQ, but the FAQ isn't really clear on the details.

it goes by your modified magery that is why some people equip things like wands when training magery to make it lower and hence easier to gain with lower spells

Yep, get a mage weapon with the biggest penalty you can find.
