Since When Does your Pet not hear whispers?

Umm I've been playing a tamer since there were tamers in the game.
I've always whispered petname kill then said some stupid emote like "Get Em!"
5 on Friday says this is changed.
I'd like to know why.

I hope this is not permanent...I also like making command macros with different phrases to be heard rather than the same "all kill" over and over.

I'm very happy about the AI changes, but I'd hate to lose the ability to whisper commands to my companions.

Devs, is this working as intended?

i hate seeing all that spam on my screen too, id rather now see everyone else spamming all that.

- I get the feeling it is... it allows PvP to know that tamers are commanding the pets to attack? That's the only reason I could come up with when reading about the change.
But hey, that is just my lowly guesstimate.

Reacted to this too, and strongly disagree with this change. It has to go. PvP cannot be allowed to ruin the game for the RP/PvM portion of the playerbase. Whispering commands and saying an alternative is a very common practice ammong tamers, and absolutely critical for RPing tamers. And last time I checked UO was and mmoRPg?

Bring back whispered pet commands, and PLEASE fix the stupid pet pathfinding! Why can pets walk around the entire world to get to a target, but get stuck on a twig when trying to get back to you!?

For as long as I can remember I've simply always used straight whispered commands. I don't use emote quips so as not to clutter my own or others' screen with tamer command spam.

I'm curious myself, usually the only reason they do such changes are to correct some major structural flaw, not just to annoy us.

I didn't know about this change, so I'm still using whispers. My pets are still following me. When did it change? if it actually has? Wasn't in this publish because my pets were obeying whispered commands only a few hours ago.

Your pet in KR can't hear whispers, and never could.

I only just read this 5 on Friday. It's a mess! At least 2 things not accurate.

Yes, after actually etsting this in UO my pets follow whispered orders just fine, and also Petra, I too went on my daily rare trip and at least the blacksmith dailys in both bucs and serps hold spawn. The whip has always been quite rare so I didn't check, but you got one of them so that too is wrong.

By the way. The first few times I tried to command my pets after the latest publish, my whispered commands didn't work. Then they started working again. I would hate to have this change. I love the rp effect, in part because seeing a pvp tamer rp'ing with their pets really annoys the 733t pvp crowd - far more effective than trash talk...

I did too Flutter...for RP I would whisper all follow me and then I'd say things like *come to me my loyal friends* silly stuff like that....

Now that doesn't work...GRrrrrrrr it's upsetting.

Yeah, saw that too. It still works on prodo shards, but I'm assuming that we're thinking they changed it in an upcoming patch or publish or what have you?

If this is the case, I'm going to be pretty annoyed. Roleplayers spamming orders don't look too good. Whispering them is a good remedy for this.

WHY would you do something like this, if it is in fact even happening and Jeremy wasn't just mistaken?

As for the whip, I got it 2nd refill of the barrels this morning. You just have to know that you need to 'prime' the barrels by opening all the empty barrels first.

I hope Draconi doesn't waste too much time trying to find a bug that isn't there, just a lack of knowledge in the player that asked the question.

first line. instead of "say" look for "whisper"
then complete the macro as usual

Boy I sure did walk into it. I should have known. LoL I checked an old playguide I have and to whisper you put a ;&lt;-- semicolon(space) then what you want to say and only those close to you can hear. I had to see it in print to remember doing it that way when I first started. I never thought to look in the options menu. I use UOA and rarely go to options. I don't remember the last time I whispered anything, in game that is.

Hopefully they won't change or alter the fact that you can whisper Guards and Bank and still have everything working. I always love watching people scratch their heads about who called guards on em

If they "nerfed" this because you could silently command your pet to kill someone in PVP, they missed the functionality that you can ALWAYS silently command your pet using context menu.

Un-fix this fix please. Whispering to pets shouldn't be tampered with 10 years after it's inception.

As a side note, I friended my pet to a buddy last night, later unfriended, and it seems that unfriended doesn't work. My pet is still obediently following my buddy around.

As far as I know nothing has been changed, nor is destined to be changed, the answer given is simply not totally accurate.

[/ QUOTE ]When I “say” something in UO and you “hear” my words those words go from my client to the server and then from the server to your client.

One would think that the transfer of the “spoken” command from the tamer to the pet would be handled by server side code just like anything else we say. If that were the case then a whisper should have the same affect in 2D and KR as the transfer of information is server side. So, it seems a bit odd that pets can hear a 2D whisper yet would ignore a KR whisper.
