Just a word of caution: I don't think that EA has ever released Ultima Underworld as freeware, so downloading the game is still considered piracy even if it's almost 20 years old...

The point is : do they still sell it? If they do, yes it's piracy. If not, then they're not losing any money anyway so who cares.

I dont think EA owns that title...I could be wrong, but it was produced by another company. But I am not sure.

It's abandonware which is not being sold at all so no ones losing any money on it. Pretty much the same thing with downloading roms for emulators, at least till they start releasing crappy remakes when all people want to do is play the original... Noo they still haven't released a Crisis Core level or better remake of FFVII

I havnt downloaded in like a year and a half or so..Sorry if I didnt work. I had to play it in a dos box type thing though.

Ultima Underworld I and II were developed externally by Blue Sky/Looking Glass, but they were both published by Origin. When EA acquired Origin in 1992, they also bought the rights to Ultima Underworld. UWII was even published after the acquisition, so the game has been a property of EA since its release - the original boxes say "Origin - an Electronic Arts company".

The fact that EA is never going to bring anyone to court for a game that hasn't been on shelves for years doesn't change the fact that it's still illegal to download it... I don't personally care, but I thought I should mention it on a forum that is regularly frequented by EA employees
