Why do we still have the current stable system so long after you guys said it needed to be changed?

There is no logical reason that a lumberjack can ride a swampy and have 4 packies tagging along while they chop, but at the end of the day they can't stable them.

Bonus slots were a good idea given the new creatures that were coming out, and SOME of them should be left in (100/110/120, and add HERDING 75/100 slots too!)
But there was never any good reason to cut everyone that wasn't a tamer down to 2 slots.

No one can claim it had to do with server-side data storage since they gave tamers 14 slots.

Seriously just go back to 5 slots/character, and apply the 100/110/120 bonus slots. Add in 2 slots for GM herding to give it a little more life, and let it go at that.
Nobody NEEDS 14 slots (mine are full, but i know I don't need 2 dread horses a reptalon or a hiryu)

While I'm suggesting (which never gets anywhere anyway) I may as well do this...

Make Stablehand NPCs on contract at our houses actually work.
They could only stable 1 animal / character (not counted on stable slots), and only stable domestics (those tradable to anyone), and would charge much higher fees. Say 250g/day.

There is no House-Pet PvP exploitability due to the Any-Owner pet restriction, and while 250g/day is negligable it does qualify as a small gold sink.

IMO it is a system long over due. Player auctions could allow bidders to stable their mounts, you could have a squirrel without giving up your fire beetle, etc.

Ok I agree that having a Stable at your house would be cool , but it would have to be connected to the stables in town. If you had it totally private like you suggested it would cause problems when houses fall. If the house falls and your NPC stableman goes poof , your pet would go with it , I can hear the crying now.......

Just a thought , I love the idea though , we just need to make sure every corner is covered.

The pet isn't tied to That specific stablehand. It is simply in a 1 slot/character stable that is accessed only through player-home contracted stablehands.

So if the house collapsed you could still claim your goat at the neighbors' stablehand.

I'm all for giving everyone at least 5 stable slots. I currently have a non-tamer that has 3 packies following him around just because he can't stable them.

I reject your assertion that no one needs 14 stable slots. I run packs and pretty much always have my stables full. I had to make extra tamers just so I could have each type of pet that I wanted to have. I have 5 tamers at this point, because I ended up with lots of pets that I didn't want to throw away and tamers are just that fun to play.

I'd love to be able to sacrifice some of my house storage to store more pets. I don't use all my storage anyway, but I do use all my stables.

It would be cool to be able to share a common stable across an account, so I could use the same pet with any character on an account and still have the pet be bonded for that character. A common stable would allow me to keep one set of bonded pack horses instead of having packies on each character.

Another good solution would be to allow players to group pets and have the pets only occupy a single stable slot, but force the tamer to pull the pets out together. This would allow tamers that run packs to stable their entire pack as a 5 slot pet instead of as 5 individuals. They are a team after all.

As long as you have the 30 gold to start, if your bank box is empty, you keep pets in the stable, and pay 0 fee's. I had pets on inactive accounts and they were still in the stable after 8 years of non payment.

Hmmm, i guess that makes me an exploiter??????:danceb:

I think 5 slots per non-tamer char would do.

5 or 7...

Not that i have that many horses on my warrior or crafter.
But would be cool to have extra slots for a ferret or a squirrel :)

I ponyed up the RL cash for the extra 25% house/bank storage space on all three of my accounts (yes, I am weak :blushing:). So, now that you mention it, I am wondering why my tamer characters didn’t get some extra slots out of that deal as well.

I am not all clear why there is a push to limit Tamers and the number pets they can have, period.

The cost of computer equipment has drastically been reduced since UO was introduced, so any argument of cost would be ... well an interesting argument to have, IF the real hardware were placed on the table to substantiate the arguments.

It is NOT clear why they do not simply do away with the Stable Hand totaly.

it is well within their ability to have each pet be able to be a Statuette. That can then be stored in the bank or how ever one wants to store them in their house. With a little work, they could even be Vendored (i.e. add codeing to show the 3 Lore ages).

I could accept the limitation that the Statuette could only be created from a secure container (house or bank) and the pet brought back to life from a secure container (house or bank). The tool would be purchasable and would need to be in the same secure container as the statuette/statuette would be placed in the same secure container. The tool would give a targeting cursor and would perform the action depending on the target.

This would allow tamers to have as many pets as they want and fill their house item slots up with pets. Instead of constantly needing to make choices.

IF they did some extra work and Bonded the pet to the Account then any member on the account could use the Statuette, if they meet the current rules for Pet Transfer.

If a Statuette is purchased through the trade window or a vendor then the routines would recode the owner to the purchaser. If NEED BE the Bonded Indicator could then be reset as well.

One of my biggest problem with the stable thing was my crafters got hosed when I go mining or luimberjacking I am stuck with 2 packs that will ever be bonded unless I jewel up then maybe 3 bonded pets. I would be happy with the 5 slots for non-tamer- I dont even use all my tamer slots and I am almost maxed out on skills.

I have had 3 bonded pack animals for months - and had 5 before I released 2 of them.

All you have to do is feed it, log out with it empty in your house, and feed it again after a week. They don't HAVE to be in a stable to bond - just live a week between feedings.

As pets will now log out with your character, even a non-tamer can keep several pets long enough to bond . You could bond with up to six anyone-can-own pets - five in the follower slots and one in a stable slot, leaving one stable slot open to swap a follower slot pet with a stable slot pet (yes, you could bond with seven total but then two would be “stuck“ in the stable). This is not particularly convenient but it can be done.
