The "enhanced client" (aka "SA client") can continue to be used.

There is no Sa client ...
It is now called enhanced client it has its own beta status. Thus it wont leave beta status when SA gets launched. Work on it will be continued and you probably can use it as long as you want. But you wont be able to log onto Retribution with it, unless you are part of the closed beta.

The enhanced client is a totally different entity to the Stygian Abyss expansion. You can play game with either the enhanced or the classic client, you won't be able to play the expansion content until 8th September, and even then only if you've bought the code to access it.
At current time the enhanced client is in extended open beta, and expected to remain that way up to and beyond the release of the expansion, which has currently gone back into closed beta for final tweaking before release.
