I see alot of things on the rare boards for items that sell for 100's of millions. Now some i might can see.But why pay for something for a color?I see some of those shrouds sell for 300 mill and what not,but they really have no purpose, but looks.

So as a buyer, why do you spend so much on items that collect dust?I can see some of the event weapons and armor, but not a statue or a bottle that says something.

You'ld be amazed how important it is to some players to stand out.

Asthetics rules all.

I get many people asking me about various shrouds that exist and price ranges for them, and when they refer to them they dont say "I want it", they say "I need it" and this applies to shrouds of all colors, mods or not.

I guess in my 9 years of uo, i never saw a place for things that just sit there, other than paintings.Which i have basically every painting there is.Except some rehued pink painting that was a event item.

I have sold everything i have ever gotten, when it comes to stuff like what i describe. The first round of blackrock,i sold 27 peices for 10 mill a pop.And i just blew it on barb and fletch kits.

Again i can understand a weapon or armor.Which if you look at it, will never make a return of what ya pay for it.Unless you buy a double slayer weapon i can see.Which was nerfed for the most part, but is still effective.I think i have every single double slayer bow(poison ele/ele slayer which use to kill a paragon poison ele in 2 hits).

I remember a guy on Ls,who had a dragon/reptile bow,and would kill acient wyrms in 3 hits. Now,that bow would be worth a investment.

Trey, I don't believe they literally meant that they've never seen a place for things to sit, but that they meant they never saw a reason to hold on to or purchase items simply to lock them down as displays.

I guess people collect for various reasons. I collect because I think it makes this game fun. It's the thrill of finding a particular item then owning it. I like to decorate with it knowing that each time I log in it will be there waiting for me. It beats billions of GP sitting there i guess. But even then there are people who likes to collect gp checks. So what ever the reason is as long as this game allows us to do it and people can find the fun in doing it, (why not) hehe.

I collect paintings and art in real life.
Why didn't I spend that money on another car or a maybe even another house (I have a pretty big collection)?
Because I like how it looks. I like the collecting bit. Now UO rares aren't really comparable to real life art (no one spent hours/days/months working on a single ingame item I presume), but it's similar in a way. Collecting. Showing off. Decorating.
I like some quest items, since it signifies a big thing in the game that many people attended. And a bit of history of the game.

It's very human to collect things. There are many books about it (that I can't be bothered to read), and it probably has something to do with mothers
