Shouldn't there be a GM HOTLINE for accounts being hacked ?

I just read a thread about problems contacting support after hours and not receiving immediate assistance from Game Masters (waiting times sometimes may be long...) about issues which might instead require immediate care.

I was wondering, in the instance of accounts suspected of being hacked or other issues which might need immediate and swift Game Master attention and intervention, shouldn't there be a Help HOTLINE button which gets a GM look into the matter without any waste of time ?

I mean, I have waited myself in the Help queue and sometimes I had to wait very long.

For example, when account is being hacked, waiting time might result is greater losses to that account.

Since in game service is 24 hours, therefore, always available, perhaps there should be a way to page for immediate help, also from accounts OTHER than the one being hacked (so that friends can call for help), at the very least in case of suspected hackings. If an account is being hacked, of course it ain't possible to page a GM from within THAT account, this is why other accounts (friends...) should be able to also page for help in those cases.

Or, at least, provide a CHAT line via the Internet with the Game Masters where the owner of the account can get in touch with the GMs directly through means other than in game also at off time hours. Of course, it should be a safe and secure Chat line to avoid account informations being handed to anyone other than Game Masters.

Just a thought................

seems people get UO accounts by taking E-mails. I'd like to see a mandatory secret question for retrieving your UO password, and also an authenticator becoming an option.

I have always thought you should be able to link accounts together if you wanted to. I personally run 3 accounts, have had as many as 5. It would be nice to be able to just link them all together in some way to prevent just such a thing from happening.

I never ever give out my email for my accounts.

My normal email is vastly different from the emails that hold my accounts...

I did this many, many years ago after hearing that many accounts are hacked through email.

the emails tied to my accounts are never used for anything but the accounts they are not linked to anything else nor one another... lest one should fall and they all would fall...


But Yes I agree there SHOULD be some phone number or something to call if you are being hacked... AND this is a BIG one... EA should treat such things as many other games do.... they should find the hackers and punish them..... they SHOULD return what was lost/stolen to the rightful owner... and they should put in place more safeguards for their paying loyal customers... They should NOT do what they do and continue to treat the victim as some sort of deserving loser... As it is now if you are hacked they feel that you did something wrong..... that you somehow gave out information to the hacker.... And sometimes perhaps that is the case but more often than not of late the victim is also the victim of having their email hacked.

It's beyond time something was done to help the customer.

But if they are linked, then a hacker would get them all at once! I never put all of my eggs in one basket - so to speak.

And a Gm hotline for hacking would do not good at all... do you really believe that the UO-players would not abuse it, totally bypassing the normal GM paging system hoping to reduce their wait time?

I'm not sure what a good answer would be - but that's probably not it.

Well, it´s quite simple to not let that happen. Just put in the disclaimer that if you use the "help-account being hacked" option for anything else, you will be banned (short or long term)

Sure... "Oh! An Item is not where I left it! My account must be being hacked! While you're at it, can you fix XXX for me?"

Watch U-hall for a while and you'll see how easy it is to twist things to suit your needs/desires.

Sad and so true.

But, there should be a way to retrieve your password without needing your email somehow. Perhaps through your CD key and/or credit card number that is used to pay for the account.

The CC# would work,..........best bet as always, don't divulge your UO email to anyone, passwords , account names. Obviously, this current hack is what happened.

That's why I can't stress enough, make NEW emails for EACH of your accounts, make it a different password then anything else you have. Make the secret question answers impossible to guess. And forget about that email, never log onto it unless you have to.

Only way to lose your account is by a Trojan (rare), have an updated anti-virus and scan your computer EVERY NIGHT. Then it will be next to impossible for anyone to take your accounts. Other than social engineering them off of you.
