Shadow elemental disappeared

While training my new turtle on a shadow elemental that was dug up, After 2.5 hours the elemental just vanished. I was attended as I was working vet as well. I thought the elementals remained until killed or server shutdown. Any info.

This is normal behaviour, can prevent this by doing damage to the shadow elemental (using melee) once in a while.

like gilly said you have to keep it 'awake' or they will de-spawn.

even just re-telling your pet to 'all kill' will keep it active too.

Thanks, while it didnt take long to get another to spawn I was just shocked it disappeared. I was honestly waiting for a GM message to come across my screen. I will start hitting the rock every now and then.
