[Discussion] Selling Spawning Items on the Rares Forum

Ive seen a good amount of spawning items for sale on the rares forum lately. And have a few myself that i would post, but ive always been personally committed to only posting rares on the rares forum. I may change that stance and start posting depending on the general consensus and results of this poll.

Id like to see what others thoughts are about this. I realize times are changing, theres lots of items out there, and many people do collect spawning items, especially newer collectors who might collect them as a gate-way item before they get into true rares collecting.

We have a Trader's forum for non rares. I think we should keep Rares forum for rares.

Check out the new sticky threads posted yesterday by Nort, they explain what does in each category. I know you know what belongs and what doesn't, but maybe the mods will become more strict with the new terms and policy's posted.

I personally think people should be allowed to post items for sale wherever they feel it is most likely to sell (without just posting everywhere). The rare forum should be mostly limited to rares but I see no problem with people posting stuff that is low-spawning enough to command a large pricetag such as the blaze cu-sidhe. Even with the occasional spawning item posted here it isn't going to cause problems to the forum, 1st page still covers a few days of posts.

But atm, I can only think of 3 items that I would even qualify for this: Blaze Cu, Moonstone Jewelry (not even sure this is still spawning) and Ruined Painting (and I sometimes question if this item is rare enough to be sold as "rare").

I don't have a problem with people posting spawning items, but I would love if people posted the origin of items they are selling. While I feel people should always ask if they are unfamiliar, it pains me when I hear about folks buying something they thought was an event item or server birth and found it wasn't.

all good points so far. i realize this is also highly a grey area. i wouldnt want to see posts just full of slithers and vet rewards, but as it is now, if theres a spawning item just thrown in with mostly rares, people can mistake it for a non-spawning rare assuming that because its in the rares forum it must be a rare. ive talked to people before who bid much much higher than an items value because they mistakingly assumed an item was in fact a non-spawning rare.

also items that i see as current grey areas - items that are technically rare because they may only be one of kind via date/label but not graphic, such as older parrots, trophy deeds that have of course that specific date cant be created anymore, current "rare" holiday items (altho theres techincally a forum for that already) and also items that are rares, but overwhelmingly abundant (example would be soulstone frag tokens and heritage tokens)
then items that are relatively common, but collectable, like armor sets. Or extremely "rare" items that are still spawning. like slim's shadow veil, blaze cus, or possibly first edition books.
theres a host of other items similar on both these extremes.

also realize that this largely comes down to what the moderators decide to enforce. good discussion. thx all for the replies and input.

As it stands right now, officially, the rares forum is only supposed to have non-spawning items sold in it.

If a post contains non-rare items it is usually moved to Traders Hall. However, a problem I run into with that is when there is a really large auction posted that has mostly rares, and a few non-rares mixed in. At that point I have to weigh the pros and cons of moving it. It usually goes something like this:

Pros: The rares forum stays pure with only non-spawning items. A person will not mistakenly think an item is rare if it's not in the rares forum usually.

Cons: If I move their thread the owner would of course be annoyed. If it happens too many times, the owner could become annoyed enough to stop doing auctions (which has happened before). If the owner stops doing auctions, people miss out on bidding on the items in the future. With less auctions and bidding, the rares forum becomes less active with less items for sale which could cause the community members to get bored and not visit the rares forum as often.

In a case like that sometimes a large auction that is mostly rares with a few spawning items is allowed to stay for the overall good of the community-oriented spirit of the rares forum. Also, I do not always see every non-spawning item on the forum so the only way to guarantee a moderator sees it is to report the post. We have not gotten a single report for non-spawning items being posted in the rares forum in probably 3 months.

I will do my best to move any non-rare items that end up here to maintain the purity of the forum, but as you can see it's not always as simple of a situation as it appears.

If the community wants to change the rules so a non-rare item can be posted as long as it is clearly marked as a still spawning item, that is definitely something we can consider.

There will never be as many Blaze Cus as there are 2 story statues yet as it stands the rarer of the two items technically can't be sold in the rares forum. Defining spawning as not rare and nonspawning as rare doesn't really work for everything. Perhaps keep the rule as it is but with a short list of items with really low spawn rates like the ones smoot listed as an exception.

This is one of those issues that is plainly obvious but if you were to write it down on paper it would be hundreds of words long.

Just let the forum moderators do their job. If you have a post that is affected then talk to them. So now you have one sentence: this forum is for selling rare items.
