I've been playing around with the various attack macro methods in the old client.
For whatever reason, the failure rate of the seclect nearest mobile is VERY high. I've been in champ spawn situations where there were easily 20 mobiles on my screen, and yet the macro didn't think so.
I tried my first spawn today using the select nearest hostile/attack selected pair - works flawlessly. All I need to do is rock my thumb back and forth between the two buttons on my gaming mouse, while charging headlong into the spawn.
This is important for me because I like to run a hit area weapon, which of course makes funny decisions about what you should be attacking sometimes. I love to be able to run into a pile of stuff, and clear an entire room in a single WW. Without a good, reliable way to always make sure I'm targeted on something next to me, I'm lunchmeat once the spawn hits the magic users middle stages.
