Scribe Mage vs. Necro Mage

Hello,

I recently transfered my mages animal taming and lore to one of my alts, and have begun taking steps to make the character more proficient in the PvP arena. While the character won't be used exclusively for PvP, I want him to at least be able to hold his own in a fight, and perhaps survive more than a couple seconds should he run into a red.

So with that said, I began training wrestling (for disarm) and inscription (for the bonus). But recently, I've come across a nice kryss, and have been tempted to drop the above skills and go for necromancy and spirit speak.

The Kryss:
Mage Weapon -21
Hit Lightning 46%
Spell Channeling FC-1
Damage Increase 40%
Fire Resist 15%

It's definately not the best kryss out there for this sort of thing, it seemed like a steal for the price. The characters skills would either be:

120 Magery
120 Eval Int
120 Resist
120 Med
120 Necromancy or Wrestling
120 Spirit Speak or Inscription

If I go the Necro Route, I would probably arm him like this: Crystalline Ring, Ornament of the Magician, Chaos Shield Museum Replica, Folded Steel Glasses, Armor of Fortune, and the rest would be mostly dedicated to LRC and Resists. I also just began training an alchemist on another account, so eventually I would be able to supply myself with potions when necessary.

Good? Bad? Advice?

I know which of the two kills me more often (necro/mage). Necro/mage will be more useful in PvM, too (can't disarm Semidar).

Your armor sounds good. Don't forget inquis for the 3 fcr. The weapon is ok...the -fc is gonna hurt you. At least for PvM, you'll prolly want to drop the weapon for a 30 sdi book or arcane shield. Also, most necro/mages like their -mage weapons to have dci. More dci, the better. :)

I'm thinking, probably between the Armor of Fortune (20% DCI), Folded Steel Glasses (15% DCI), and the Quiver (5% DCI), I shouldn't be too bad. I could give him the Cloak of Death, and he would be 2% from the cap. And between the Kryss, Chaos Shield, and Ornament of the Magician, I should have 2/5 FC/FCR.

I also have a nice collection of 25-30% SDI Invasion spellbooks and a couple Scrappers.

Ahh, missed the chaos museum replica. Yeah, you'll be ok, in that case. Good thinking. :)

In PvP, you'll spend more time with that kryss in your pack than anything else. People will run around spamming disarm and once that happens, you are archer bait.

With that said, necro mage is a very powerful template if you learn it. But you are really open to dexers the moment you get disarmed.

As far as inscribe goes, I've tried that on my current mage template and it hasn't helped me worth a damn. I'm going to drop it for something else.

I run a wrestle parry mage:thumbsup: I can't kill a single player but it take 3-4 dexers to even kill me:next: Haven't been dropped by a single dexer:p OTOH, I only team PvP so while people waste their attention on me, they get dropped by 187 other guys on my side:loser:

I may drop the wrestle for 100 anat to put 20 points somewhere else.

now days wrestling is obsolete IMO Unless somehow you mannage to get good mr lmc lrc dci hpi hpr hci fc fcr and resists.

I think the 100 anatomy route would be much better. The reason i say this is sure you can disarm and para punch with just wrestling but every time you cast you will have to retoggle that special, do to that you will have to stop casting and try to do nothing but DISARM the person your fighting. Becouse you have no hci normaly this will take you a few swings at 2.5 secs a swing it will probly take you over 6 secs of not casting a thing to actualy disarm someone unless you get realy lucky (to lucky to be reliable). normaly with that large of a delay your just better off spamming spells.

Necro mage is a tight template.
Where would Warder fit 100 Anatomy in his template?

If your -21 mage weap gets disarmed, doesn't the 45DCI still help a little? So you can cast a spell or two untill you re-arm?

Ive recently buit

120mage
120eval
120med
120wrestle
100scribe
120resist

Strangely, i can beat dexxers but im not yet proficient enough as a mage to beat other mages!

Its got good DCI(you only get 15from aof btw)

Im in factions and use the faction folded steels(25DCI), AOF(15DCI) Quiver (5DCI) Faction Clanins Spellbook(5DCI) and a 12DCI HPR2 Shield.

I am toying with droping the 120 wrestle for 100anat and using the faction crystaline to have 60 sw as well.

EDIT:

I also have a necro mage, with the 6 skills 120'd

Works good as a spawner and can hold his own, as stated though he gets disarmed alot and then it gets painful!!

He uses the non faction glasses(15DCI) aof(15DCI) quiver(5DCI) and a sc no pen 14DCI katana

Yes it helps a little, in a human necro mage once disarmed with 120 eval it basically calculates as a 120with capped hci(the norm) against a 80skill 30ish dci, that calculation means you get hit...ALOT!
